Tropical Storm Haitang (2011)
Tropical Storm Haitang was a weak tropical cyclone which impacted China and Southeast Asia. The nineteenth named storm of the below-average 2011 Pacific typhoon season, Haitang developed from a disturbance in the South China Sea. After being recognized as a tropical depression on September 24, Haitang would peak as a minimal tropical storm before making landfall in Hue, Vietnam. Haitang would rapidly weaken once inland, dissipating in Laos in September 27. Meteorological history At 15:00 UTC on September 21, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) began to monitor a low-pressure area persisting around 260 nautical miles south of Hong Kong. Kiến Giang River
The Kiến Giang River ( vi, Sông Kiến Giang) is a river in Lệ Thủy District, Quảng Bình Province, North Central Coast, Vietnam. The length of the river is 58 km. It is a tributary of the Nhật Lệ River. The Kiến Giang River originates in the Annamite Range (Truong Son Range) where various streams add water to it. The upper part of this river is sloping, therefore rain water from Annamite Range flows violently to the lower part in rainy seasons (in autumn), causing floods in it basin. Thanks to An Ma Dam, this situation has been stopped. Unlike other rivers in Vietnam which flow southeast, the Kiến Giang River flows northeast, and creates a narrow delta in Lệ Thủy District. Tropical Cyclones In 2011
During 2011, tropical cyclones formed within seven different tropical cyclone basins, located within various parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. During the year, a total of 131 tropical cyclones had formed this year to date. 71 tropical cyclones had been named by either a Regional Specialized Meteorological Center (RSMC) or a Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC). Thirty-nine of these named systems eventually intensified into hurricane-equivalent tropical cyclones. The most active basin in the year was the Western Pacific, which documented 21 named storms. North Atlantic basin documented 19 named storms, continuing the consecutive third-most active season trends from the previous year, due to the 2010–12 La Niña event. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) is the Thai governmental agency responsible for weather forecasting and monitoring. It is an agency of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES). It maintains four meteorological centers: one each for the northern region, the northeastern region, and two in the southern region (eastern shore and western shore). 2011 Thailand Floods
Severe flooding occurred during the 2011 monsoon season in Thailand. The flooding began at the end of July triggered by the landfall of Tropical Storm Nock-ten. These floods soon spread through the provinces of northern, northeastern, and central Thailand along the Mekong and Chao Phraya river basins. In October floodwaters reached the mouth of the Chao Phraya and inundated parts of the capital city of Bangkok. Flooding persisted in some areas until mid-January 2012, and resulted in a total of 815 deaths (with three missing) and 13.6 million people affected. Sixty-five of Thailand's 76 provinces were declared flood disaster zones, and over of farmland was damaged. Hương River
The Hương River (; ) is a river that crosses the city of Huế, in the central Vietnam. In the autumn, flowers from orchards upriver from Huế fall into the water, giving the river a perfume-like aroma, hence the sobriquet. Source and flow The Hương River has two sources; both begin in the Dãy Trường Sơn mountain range and meet at Bằng Lãng Fork. The Tả Trạch (left tributary) originates in the Trường Đồng mountains and flows northwest towards the fork.
