Transperth
Transperth is the public transport system for Perth and surrounding areas in Western Australia. It is managed by the Public Transport Authority (PTA), a state government organisation, and consists of train, bus and ferry services. Bus operations are contracted out to Swan Transit, Path Transit and Transdev. Ferry operations are contracted out to Captain Cook Cruises. Train operations are done by the PTA through their Transperth Train Operations division. The Transperth train system consists of eight lines: the Airport, Armadale, Ellenbrook, Fremantle, Mandurah, Midland, Thornlie–Cockburn, and Yanchep lines; and 85 stations. Train services have operated since 1881. The Transperth bus system has over 1,499 buses and 51 bus stations, 38 of which are interchanges at railway stations. Transperth Train Operations
Railways in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, have existed since 1881, when the Eastern Railway (Western Australia), Eastern Railway was opened between Fremantle and Guildford, Western Australia, Guildford. Today, Perth has eight Transperth suburban railway lines and 85 railway stations. Yanchep Line
The Yanchep line, formerly the Joondalup line, is a suburban railway line and service in Perth, Western Australia, linking the city's central business district (CBD) with its northern suburbs. Operated by the Public Transport Authority as part of the Transperth system, the Yanchep line is long and has sixteen stations. It commences in a tunnel under the Perth CBD as a through service with the Mandurah line. North from there, the line enters the median strip of the Mitchell Freeway, where nine of the line's stations are. The Yanchep line diverges from the freeway to serve the centre of Joondalup and permanently leaves the freeway north of Butler for the northernmost four stations to Yanchep. Perth Railway Station
Perth railway station is the largest station on the Transperth network, serving the Perth central business district, central business district of Perth, Western Australia. Mandurah Line
The Mandurah line, also known as the Southern Suburbs Railway, is a suburban railway line and service in Western Australia, linking Perth's central business district (CBD) with Mandurah to the south. Operated by the Public Transport Authority (Western Australia), Public Transport Authority (PTA) as part of the Transperth system, the Mandurah line is long and has thirteen stations. It commences as a through service with the Yanchep line in the William Street tunnel under the CBD, where two stations are. South from there, the line enters the median strip of the Kwinana Freeway, where five of the line's stations are. Thornlie–Cockburn Line
The Thornlie–Cockburn line is a suburban railway line and service in Perth, Western Australia, operated by the Public Transport Authority (Western Australia), Public Transport Authority as part of the Transperth system. The line branches from the Armadale line in Kenwick, Western Australia, Kenwick and heads south-west on a route alongside the Kwinana freight railway and the Kwinana Freeway to Cockburn Central, Western Australia, Cockburn Central. Thornlie–Cockburn line services continue north-west of Beckenham station alongside Armadale line services, terminating at Perth railway station, Perth station. Armadale Line
The Armadale line is a partially-closed suburban railway service in Perth, Western Australia, operated by the Public Transport Authority as part of the Transperth system. The Armadale line is long, and starts at Perth station, heading south-east of there to serve Perth's south-eastern suburbs, terminating at Armadale station. Since June 2025, the line has been closed from Beckenham Station to Armadale for the Rail Revitalisation Program and Byford extension with services operating between Perth and Cannington, as Beckanham is only being serviced by Thornlie-Cockburn Line services. The Airport line is a suburban railway line and service in Perth, Western Australia, operated by the Public Transport Authority (Western Australia), Public Transport Authority as part of the Transperth system. Metropolitan Transport Trust
The Metropolitan (Perth) Passenger Transport Trust was a statutory authority of the Government of Western Australia from 1958 to 2003. From 1958 to the mid-1990s, it operated Buses in Perth, bus and ferry services within the Perth metropolitan area. From 1974 to 1993, it managed Railways in Perth, suburban rail services within the Perth metropolitan area as well, contracting the operation of those services to Westrail. The organisation was formed with the trading name Metropolitan Transport Trust (MTT) on 15 January 1958 with the purpose of consolidating the various private bus companies into one entity. The private bus companies at the time were in a perilous financial state and people believed that Perth would benefit from a single integrated public transport system. Perth Underground Railway Station
Perth Underground railway station is a railway station within the Perth central business district in Western Australia along the William Street tunnel. It is adjacent to the above-ground Perth railway station and is sometimes considered part of that station. Perth Underground station is served by Yanchep line services heading north and Mandurah line services heading south. Midland Line, Perth
The Midland line is a suburban rail service on the Transperth network in Perth, Western Australia. It runs on the Eastern Railway through Perth's eastern suburbs and connects Midland with Perth. Travelling from Midland, the trains terminate at Fremantle on the Fremantle line.
