The Man Who Sued God
''The Man Who Sued God'' is a 2001 Australian comedy film starring Billy Connolly and Judy Davis, and directed by Mark Joffe. The film was a financial success, debuting at number one at the Australian box office in the week of its launch. Plot Advocate Steve Myers (Billy Connolly) is a disillusioned lawyer who becomes fed-up with the corruption within the judicial system. He quits law, buys a small fishing boat and takes up fishing for a living. Steve's fishing boat is struck by lightning and explodes into pieces, burns and sinks. He informs his insurance company, which reviews and then subsequently declines his claim on the grounds that it is not liable as his fishing boat was destroyed due to an "act of God". Mark Joffe
Mark Joffe (born 1956) is an Australian film and television director. He has directed feature films, telemovies, and drama series. Joffe learned his trade at Crawford Productions, working on ''Carson's Law'', '' Special Squad'' and ''Neighbours''. His first major directing job was the first episode of ''The Great Bookie Robbery'' (1986). He agreed to direct the Irish-American film ''The Matchmaker'' after gaining approval to have the script rewritten by Irish writer Graham Linehan, one of the writers of ''Father Ted''. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review aggregator, review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Bermagui () is a town on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, in the Bega Valley Shire. It lies on the shores of the southern end of Horseshoe Bay. The name is derived from the Dyirringanj word, ''permageua'', possibly meaning "canoe with paddles". History A wharf was built in Horseshoe Bay in 1888 for the coastal trade.
