The Great Battles (series)
''The Great Battles'' is a computer wargame series based on the '' Great Battles of History'' board game series by GMT Games. The three titles in the series—'' The Great Battles of Alexander'', '' The Great Battles of Hannibal'' and '' The Great Battles of Caesar''—were developed by Erudite Software and published by Interactive Magic. Gameplay ''The Great Battles'' is a historical turn-based combat series. Players control one of three military commanders depending on the title, Alexander, Hannibal, and Caesar. Alternatively, players can also control the corresponding aggressors of each military commander, such as Darius or Pompey, and fight against them. Combat in game is turn based, and players choose from a variety of militants, weapons, and strategic formations to compete with. A computer wargame is a wargame played on a digital device. Descended from board wargaming, it simulates military conflict at the tactical, operational or strategic level. Computer wargames are both sold commercially for recreational use and, in some cases, used for military purposes. Charles Roberts Award
The Charles S. Roberts Awards (or CSR Awards) is an annual award for excellence in manual, tabletop games, with a focus on "conflict simulations", which includes simulations of non-military as well as military conflicts. From its founding in 1975 through 2021, the award was almost exclusively focused on historical wargaming, changing to a broader "conflict simulations" in award year 2022 (calendar year 2023). It is named in honor of Charles S. Roberts the "Father of Wargaming" who founded Avalon Hill. The award is informally called a "Charlie" and officially called a "Charles S. Roberts Award". Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (; 29 September 106 BC – 28 September 48 BC), known in English as Pompey ( ) or Pompey the Great, was a Roman general and statesman who was prominent in the last decades of the Roman Republic. Hannibal (; ; 247 – between 183 and 181 BC) was a Punic people, Carthaginian general and statesman who commanded the forces of Ancient Carthage, Carthage in their battle against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. Hannibal's father, Hamilcar Barca, was a leading Carthaginian general during the First Punic War.
