The Big Byte
''The Big Byte'' was an Australian magazine style television show, focused on computers, broadcast by the SBS. Broadcast from 24 March 1994 it was hosted by Basia Bonkowski. Also featured were reporters Phil Keoghan, Maeve O'Meara and Simon Nasht and game reviewer Hayden Topperwien. Mark Lawrence of the Age about what audience it was aiming for writing "But as broad as their intended canvas might be, the show appears weighted heavily in favor if the computer novice. Nothing will surprise anyone who reads about and uses computers at anything above a superficial level." Philippa Hawker, also of the Age, expresses a similar concern noting "it's very unsure about where to pitch itself." SBS (Australian TV Channel)
SBS is a national public television network in Australia. Launched on 24 October 1980, it is the responsibility of SBS's television division, and is available nationally. In 2018, SBS had a 7.7% audience share. As of 2022, SBS is the lowest-rated television network in Australia, behind the Seven Network, the Nine Network, ABC TV and Network 10. History Origins SBS began test transmissions in April 1979 as ''SBS Ethnic Television'' when it showed various foreign language programs on ABV-2 Melbourne and ABN-2 Sydney on Sunday mornings. Full-time transmission began at on 24 October 1980 ( United Nations Day) as Channel 0/28. At the time, SBS was broadcasting on UHF Channel 28 and VHF Channel 0. Basia Bonkowski (presenter)
Basia Bonkowski (died 3 September 2022) also known as Basia Rendall, was an Australian television presenter, television producer and author. Biography Bonkowski was born in Adelaide, one of four to Polish immigrants, Maria and Jerzy. She attended Cabra College, then the University of Adelaide to study Law, before attending Flinders University, where she switched to English Literature and Drama. She married television producer Kimble Randell in 1982 and they had two adopted children, William and Camille. Bonkowski she was the presenter of programs including '' Rock Around the World'' (SBS), ''Continental Drift'' (SBS), ''Music Video'' (Channel 10), and ''The Big Byte'' (SBS). Phil Keoghan
Philip John Keoghan ( ; born 31 May 1967) is a New Zealand television personality, best known for hosting the American version of '' The Amazing Race'' on CBS, since its 2001 debut. He is the creator and host of '' No Opportunity Wasted'', which has been produced in the United States, New Zealand, and Canada. He also co-created and hosts the American reality competition television program '' Tough as Nails'' which debuted on CBS on 8 July 2020. As of 2021, he has been involved with winning ten Primetime Emmy Awards related to his work on ''The Amazing Race'', where the show consecutively won the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program seven times.
