''Thalia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the Marantaceae ( prayer plant and arrowroot) family found mainly in aquatic, marshy and riparian zones in Eastern, Central and Western Africa West Africa, also known as Western Africa, is the westernmost region of Africa. The United Nations defines Western Africa as the 16 countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ma ...—as far south as Zimbabwe—and the Americas, from Illinois in the north, through northern Argentina in the southern part of its range. ''Thalia dealbata'', the powdery alligator-flag, hardy canna, or powdery thalia, is an aquatic plant in the family Marantaceae, native to swamps, ponds and other wetlands in the southern and central United States. Its range includes much of Coastal Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley (States of South Carolina, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky).
