Taro Pastry
Taro pastry () is a Taiwanese shortbread snack with a spherical shape and made with taro as sweet filling. It first appeared in Taichung City, Taiwan in the late 1980s. At that time, it was made from surplus taro, but it later became a local snack. Method of preparation The main method of making taro pastry is to wrap the pastry made with flour and butter with the filling made of taro puree and place it in the oven. Suncake (Taiwan)
A suncake, or ''taiyang bing'', is a popular Taiwanese dessert originally from the city of Taichung, in central Taiwan. The typical fillings consist of maltose (condensed malt sugar), and they are usually sold in special gift boxes as souvenirs for visitors. Some famous suncake pastry shops always have long lines of people waiting to buy boxed suncakes. Suncakes are round, and they may vary in size. They are characterized by flaky crusts. Most people eat them with tea, and some people dissolve them in hot water to make a porridge-like dessert. Origin The first suncakes were made by the Lin family in the Shekou area of Shengang Township, Taichung County (now part of Taichung City). The Lin family used condensed malt sugar as a filling for cake pastries. Later, pastry maker Wei Qing-hai modified the cakes to their current form. Egg Yolk Pastry
Egg yolk pastry or dànhuángsū is a traditional Taiwanese mooncake of which the filling is made of salted duck egg yolk and red bean paste. According to the "Baked Food Information Magazine" in August 1986, the inventor of mini mooncakes and egg yolk pastries is Chen Zengxiong, the third generation descendant of the century-old bakery "Baoquan" in Fengyuan District, Taichung.
