Stockton is a city in and the county seat of San Joaquin County in the Central Valley of the U.S. state of California. Stockton was founded by Carlos Maria Weber in 1849 after he acquired Rancho Campo de los Franceses. The city is named after Robert F. Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, or Stagg High School, is a public, four-year high school located at 1621 Brookside Road in Stockton, California, United States. It is part of the Stockton Unified School District. The school was dedicated on February 25, 1959, and was named after college football coach Amos Alonzo Stagg. Campus Stagg has 117 classrooms, a multipurpose room, campus cafe, 2 gyms, state-of-the art weight room, and an administration building. The main campus was built in 1959. Five portable classrooms were constructed in 2000 for class size reduction. Due to a bond measure passed (Measure Q), much of the campus was upgraded to include weatherized classrooms, a new football field, softball field, and baseball field. Stockton High School (1904–1966), home of the Tarzans, was a high school in Stockton, California, part of the Stockton Unified School District. It opened in 1904 on property bounded by Harding Way, Vine, San Joaquin and California streets. The main building of the old high school, which became Stockton Junior High School in 1948, was deemed unsafe and demolished in 1966. The rest of the buildings were not earthquake safe and abandoned and demolished.
