Silverwater, New South Wales
Silverwater is a suburb in western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Silverwater is located 15 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district on the southern bank of the Parramatta River within the local government area of City of Parramatta. History The origin of the suburb's name is unknown. It may have been a reference to the nearby Parramatta River which could have provided ''silver'' reflections of light off the ''water''. The name was used when this part of the larger Newington Estate was first subdivided, in 1883. Industrial and residential developments occurred in parallel. In 1906, the area was first incorporated into the Borough of Auburn, later City of Auburn, until it was abolished in 2016. Silverwater Bridge is a concrete box girder bridge that spans the Parramatta River west of the central business district in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The bridge carries Silverwater Road (A6) over the river to link Silverwater in the south to Rydalmere and Ermington in the north. Description The Silverwater Bridge opened on 10 November 1962, and was the first concrete box girder bridge built in New South Wales. It was the first of the two major bridges needed to construct the Hornsby-Heathcote county road (the other being the Alfords Point Bridge), and was the second project undertaken in the construction of this county road (the first being Olympic Drive Lidcombe, between Boorea and Church Streets, in 1959). M4 Western Motorway
The M4 Motorway is a dual carriageway partially tolled motorway in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia that is designated as the M4 route. The M4 designation is part of the wider A4 and M4 route designation, the M4 runs parallel/below ground to the Great Western Highway and Parramatta Road (A44). Silverwater Prison Complex Conservation Area is a heritage-listed complex consisting of a historic house (Newington House) and various prison structures associated with what is now known as the Silverwater Correctional Complex, located at Holker Street, Silverwater, Cumberland Council, New South Wales, Australia. The A6 is an arterial road linking Cumberland Highway at and Princes Highway at , via Lidcombe and Bankstown. It was formerly designated as Metroad 6, which was one of the Sydney Metroads. Parramatta Road
Parramatta Road is the major historical east-west artery of metropolitan Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, connecting the Sydney CBD with Parramatta. It is the easternmost part of the Great Western Highway. Since the 1990s its role has been augmented by the City West Link and M4 Motorway. The road begins in the east as a continuation of George Street, which becomes Broadway west of Harris Street, and Parramatta Road west of the City Road junction, and ends at the junction with Church Street in Parramatta.
