Scandinavian Brazilian
Scandinavian Brazilians ( pt, escandinavo-brasileiro) refers to Brazilians of full or partial Scandinavian ancestry, or Scandinavian-born people residing in Brazil. The Scandinavian settlement in Brazil began in the mid to late 19th century and was predominant when around 3,640 Scandinavian peoples arrived in Brazil, mainly from Sweden. Many Scandinavians came to Brazil for economic reasons and to start a new life. In recent years, a few Norwegians and Swedes have migrated to the littoral zone of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (mainly Natal) and Ceará, attracted by the beaches and the tropical climate. Faroe Islanders
Faroese people or Faroe Islanders ( fo, føroyingar; da, færinger) are a North Germanic ethnic group and nation native to the Faroe Islands. The Faroese are of mixed Norse and Gaelic origins. About 21,000 Faroese live in neighbouring countries, particularly in Denmark, Iceland and Norway. Ijuí
Ijuí () is a Brazilian municipality of Rio Grande do Sul, situated from the state capital, Porto Alegre. In 2020 its population was 83,764, making it the third most populous city of the Missões region, behind Passo Fundo and Erechim. Demographics The town is known as "The Land of Diversified Cultures" due to the various nationalities of its founding immigrants, especially from Latvia and others from Europe. Guarani Das Missões
Guarani das Missões is a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Guarani das Missões calls itself the ''Polish Capital of Rio Grande do Sul'' because it was settled primarily by Polish immigrants, starting over one century ago. The Polish language is still spoken and is maintained as a unique regionalism, alongside the national language, Portuguese. History Guarani das Missões began as a Jesuit reduction settlement east of the Uruguay River. In 1891 the federal government and colonial commission of Brazil assessed and divided the land for colonization. The land originally consisted of two centers, one on the banks of the Uruguay River and one further into the interior of the country on the banks of the Comandaí River. Rio Grande do Sul (, , ; "Great River of the South") is a state in the southern region of Brazil. It is the fifth-most-populous state and the ninth largest by area. Missões
Missões, Brazil is a region of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil roughly occupying the same area previously dominated by the colonial missions founded by Saint Roque González. The ''Missões'' region is located in the northwestern part of the state and is part of a larger missions' settlement system, extending into Argentina, and other neighboring countries. Which in turn were part of a larger project, the Spanish missions in South America. Alfredo Andersen
Alfred Emil Andersen, known as Alfredo (3 November 1860, Kristiansand - 9 August 1935, Curitiba) was a Norwegian-born painter, sculptor, scenographer and art professor, who spent most of his life in Brazil. He is sometimes referred to as the "Father of painting of Paraná". Life and work His father, Tobias Andersen, was a Captain in the merchant marine. He created his first painting at the age of thirteen. He began his formal studies at the age of seventeen, in Christiania (Oslo) at the Academy of Fine Arts, under the direction of Wilhelm Krogh (1829-1913). He would be Krogh's assistant from 1877 to 1879. After that, he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, while working as a drawing teacher at an elementary school. Daniel Solander
Daniel Carlsson Solander or Daniel Charles Solander (19 February 1733 – 13 May 1782) was a Swedish naturalist and an apostle of Carl Linnaeus. Solander was the first university-educated scientist to set foot on Australian soil. Biography Solander was born in Piteå, Norrbotten, Sweden, to Rev. Carl Solander a Lutheran principal, and Magdalena (née Bostadia). Solander enrolled at Uppsala University in July 1750 and initially studied languages, the humanities and law. The professor of botany was the celebrated Carl Linnaeus, who was soon impressed by young Solander's ability and accordingly persuaded his father to let him study natural history. Rio Grande Do Norte
Rio Grande do Norte (, , ) is one of the states of Brazil. It is located in the northeastern region of the country, forming the northeasternmost tip of the South American continent.
