Sambit Bal
Sambit Bal is an Indian journalist who was born and brought up in Bhubaneswar, India. He spent 15 years in mainstream journalism working in some of India's leading publishing houses before joining Wisden in 2001. He was the first editor of '' Wisden Asia Cricket'' and the Asian editor of wisden.com. In 2003, wisden.com acquired '' Cricinfo'' and the sites merged. Bal became the editor of Cricinfo in 2004. In 2007, Cricinfo was bought by ESPN. Upon that takeover, Bal wrote an open letter to the editor, admitting the site needed "fresh investments". He promised that Cricinfo would not lose its voice, and ultimately belonged to its users. He is also the founder editor of '' Cricinfo Magazine'', which appeared for the first time in January 2006. Before joining Wisden, he edited '' Gentleman'', a monthly features magazine published in Mumbai. Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar (; ) is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Odisha. ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack'', or simply ''Wisden'', colloquially the Bible of Cricket, is a cricket reference book published annually in the United Kingdom. ''Cricinfo Magazine'' was a monthly cricket magazine published by the Wisden Group from January 2006 to July 2007. The publisher was Infomedia. The magazine, focused on cricket in India, and co-branded with Cricinfo, replaced Wisden's previous ''Wisden Asia Cricket''. The founding editorial team, led by Sambit Bal, was inherited from ''Wisden Cricket Asia''. ''Gentleman'' was an English language literary magazine published in India from 1980 to 2001. Its founder-editor was Minhaz Merchant of the Sterling Publications, which sold this and other magazines to the Indian Express Group in 1987. It was edited and published by Sambit Bal and Rajib Sarkar. Although the name of the magazine suggested a male-oriented magazine, ''Gentleman'' was anything but. They had to stick to the name due to corporate red-tape, and as a relief, used the tagline "Gentleman: Mindspace for Men". Cricket Historians And Writers
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps.
