STOLport
A STOLport or STOLPORT was an airport designed with STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) operations in mind, usually for an aircraft class of certain weight and size. The term "STOLport" did not appear to be in common usage as of 2008, although was commonly used by pilots flying into Biggin Hill during 1986/87 when the London City Airport was opened restricting approaches and ceilings to the north of Biggin. A STOLport normally had a short single runway, in general shorter than . STOLports only accepted certain types of aircraft, often only smaller propeller aircraft, and often with limits on the amount of fuel that can be taken. STOLports In Norway
The Norwegian STOLport network (in Norwegian ''kortbanenettet i Noreg'' (Nynorsk) or ''kortbanenettet i Norge'' (Bokmål)) is a network of STOLports, meaning that they are airports with short runways. The standard length of these runways is 800 m, compared to around 2500 m for a normal airport with 6-seat wide jetliners. In addition to shorter length, these airports are also narrower, with a standard width of 30 m compared to that of 60 m, respectively. They can only be used with small propeller aircraft. As of 2020, 26 of these airports are in use and 4 have been closed. The Norwegian STOLport network is a result of political decisions in the 1960s and start of the 1970s. STOL
A short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft is a conventional fixed-wing aircraft that has short runway requirements for takeoff and landing. Many STOL-designed aircraft also feature various arrangements for use on airstrips with harsh conditions (such as high altitude or ice). Victoria STOLport
Victoria STOLport was a short take-off and landing aerodrome near downtown Montreal during the mid-1970s. The STOLport had been constructed on the former parking lot for Expo 67. The airport operated a two-year STOL demonstration service, with the participation of the Ministry of Transportation, the Canadian Air Transport Administration and other Federal Agencies in order to obtain and evaluate the data on passengers and economics of the STOL service. The choice of the route fell on the Montreal – Ottawa corridor, between which 2.5 million people travelled every year.
