Syndactyla
''Syndactyla'' is a genus of foliage-gleaners, birds in the ovenbird family (biology), family Furnariidae. It now includes the two recurvebills. The recurvebills are restricted to humid forests in the South American countries of Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. Their common name refers to the peculiar bill-shape, which, at least in the case of the larger-billed Peruvian recurvebill, is an adaption for manipulating bamboo stems. Both species are overall rufescent brown. The SACC reclassified the recurvebills from the genus ''Simoxenops'' to ''Syndactyla'' based on studies from Dewberry (2011). Taxonomy The genus ''Syndactyla'' was introduced in 1853 by the German naturalist Ludwig Reichenbach to accommodate the buff-browed foliage-gleaner. The name combines the Ancient Greek ''sun'' meaning "together" with ''daktulos'' meaning "toe". Members of this genus are most closely related to the foliage-gleaners in the genus ''Anabacerthia''. It is found in Brazil and Paraguay. Taxonomy and systematics The planalto foliage-gleaner was long placed in genus '' Philydor'' but morphological and vocal data suggested affinities within ''Syndactyla''. Molecular data confirmed this change and revealed that. ''S. dimidiata'' the sister species of ''S. rufosuperciliata''. Guttulate Foliage-gleaner
The guttulate foliage-gleaner (''Syndactyla guttulata'') is a species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is endemic to Venezuela. Taxonomy and systematics The guttulate foliage-gleaner was originally described as ''Anabazenops guttulatus''. The guttulate foliage-gleaner has two subspecies, the nominate ''S. g. guttulata'' ( Sclater, PL, 1858) and ''S. g. pallida'' ( Zimmer, JT & Phelps, WH, 1944). Description The guttulate foliage-gleaner is long and weighs . It is a largish furnariid with a more wedge-shaped bill than many others of its genus. The sexes have the same plumage.
