Sylvia Lim
Sylvia Lim Swee Lian (; born 28 March 1965) is a Singaporean politician, lawyer, former police officer and former Temasek Polytechnic law lecturer. She has been the chairperson of the Workers' Party (Singapore), Workers' Party (WP) since 2003 and the Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Paya Lebar division of Aljunied Group Representation Constituency, Aljunied GRC since 2020. Having been a Non-constituency Member of Parliament, Non-Constituency Member of Parliament between 2006 and 2011 of the 11th Parliament of Singapore, Lim represented the Serangoon division of Aljunied GRC between 2011 and 2020. Before entering politics, Lim had served in the Singapore Police Force and worked in Temasek Polytechnic as a law lecturer. The call to the bar is a legal term of art in most common law jurisdictions where persons must be qualified to be allowed to argue in court on behalf of another party and are then said to have been "called to the bar" or to have received "call to the bar". "The bar" is now used as a collective noun for barristers, but literally referred to the wooden barrier in old courtrooms, which separated the often crowded public area at the rear from the space near the judges reserved for those having business with the court. CHIJ Saint Joseph's Convent is a government-aided Catholic girls' secondary school in Sengkang, Singapore. The school is one of 11 Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) schools in Singapore. History The school was founded in 1938, as a private school in a rented house at 15 Flower Road, Singapore 549404. Initially there were 21 pupils and three staff – comprising one nun from the Order of the Holy Infant Jesus and two teachers. Prior to World War II, the enrolment rose to 79 students. Paya Lebar ( ) is a planning area located in the East Region of Singapore, bordered by Hougang to the west, Sengkang to the northwest, Tampines to the east, Bedok to the south and Pasir Ris to the north. As part of the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA) Master Plan 2014, Paya Lebar Central was identified as one of the five growth areas.
