Svobodní, formerly known as Party of Free Citizens or the Free Citizens' Party () until 2019, is a Classical liberalism, classic liberal and Right-libertarianism, right-libertarian, Euroscepticism, Eurosceptic political party in the Czech Republic founded in 2009 by Petr Mach, an economist and professor of macroeconomics. Prior to assuming his position as an Member of the European Parliament, MEP, Mach taught economics at University of Finance and Administration, VŠFS and VŠEM (two private business colleges in Prague). The party is led by Libor Vondráček. Svobodní participated in the 2009 European Parliament election in the Czech Republic, 2009 European Parliament election in the Czech Republic. Its platform called for a referendum on the introduction of the euro in the Czech Republic and the rejection of the Treaty of Lisbon. Libor Vondráček
Libor Vondráček (born 29 July 1994) is a Czech politician who has served as chairman of Svobodní since October 2019. Early life and education As part of his studies, Vondráček focused on constitutional law, which culminated in the submission of his diploma thesis "Majority-forming elements in the electoral formula of proportional representation on the example of elections in the Czech Republic" under the guidance of the author of electoral laws, . Political career In the 2017 Czech parliamentary election, Vondráček received the most preferential votes in the fifth place among the regional candidates, which was unsuccessful for Svobodní as the party won only 1.56% of the votes. Petr Mach
Petr Mach (born 6 May 1975) is a Czech economist and former Member of the European Parliament. Mach is the founder of the Party of Free Citizens, which he led until 2017 when he was replaced by Tomáš Pajonk. Early career Mach worked as an executive director of the Center for Economics and Politics in Prague from 1999 to 2009, and as an external economic adviser to Czech President Václav Klaus from 2003 to 2007, with whom he shares enthusiasm for the free market economy and euroscepticism. In 2003, Mach earned a PhD from the Department of Monetary Theory and Policy of the University of Economics, Prague. The Senate () is the upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague. Structure The Senate has 81 members, chosen in single-seat constituencies through the two-round system. History The party was founded in June 2022 by figures linked to Charter 2022, an initiative opposing COVID-19 restrictions and vaccinations.
