Suvarnabhumi Airport Automated People Mover
The Suvarnabhumi Airport Automated People Mover (APM) () is an underground People mover, automated people mover located in the property of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok. It opened on 28 September 2023 (the airport’s 17th anniversary) as part of the partial opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport Midfield Satellite Concourse 1 (SAT-1) and connects the main terminal with SAT-1. It is the only airport people mover system in Thailand and is 1 km in length. Operations There are 2 stations served by the Suvarnabhumi APM: Main Terminal Building (MTB) station and SAT-1 Building station. Trains operate 24 hours a day at 3-minute intervals, taking approximately 2 minutes each way. All stations are equipped with platform screen doors and information screens. Suvarnabhumi Airport is the main international airport serving Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Located mostly in Racha Thewa subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province, it covers an area of , making it one of the biggest international airports in Southeast Asia and a regional hub for aviation. People Mover
A people mover or automated people mover (APM) is a type of small-scale automated guideway transit system. The term is generally used only to describe systems serving relatively small areas such as airports, downtown districts or theme parks. The term was originally applied to three different systems, developed roughly at the same time. One was Skybus, an automated mass transit system prototyped by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation beginning in 1964. The second, alternately called the People Mover and Minirail, opened in Montreal at Expo 67. Finally the last, called PeopleMover or WEDway PeopleMover, was an attraction that was originally presented by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and that opened at Disneyland in 1967. Airport Rail Link (Bangkok)
The Airport Rail Link (ARL) () is an airport rail link line in Bangkok Metropolitan Region connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center. The commuter rail line starts at the underground platforms inside Suvarnabhumi station, before ascending onto an elevated viaduct to Lat Krabang station, and continuing west parallel to the Eastern Line (Thailand), eastern line railway. It intersects with Yellow Line (Bangkok), Yellow Line and Blue Line (Bangkok), Blue Line before terminating at Phaya Thai station where it meets Sukhumvit Line. ''Véhicule Automatique Léger'' () or VAL is a type of driverless (automated), rubber-tyred, medium-capacity rail transport system (people mover). The technology was developed at the Lille University of Science and Technology, was marketed by Matra, and first used in the early 1980s for the Lille Metro system, one of the world's first fully automated mass-transit rail networks, preceded only by the Port Island Line in Kobe, Japan. The Rennes Metro () () is a Medium-capacity rail system, light metro system serving the city of Rennes in Brittany, France. Opened on 19 March 2002, it made Rennes the smallest city in the world to have a metro system from 2002 to 2008. Currently the system contains two lines, Line A and B.
