Surasa Mairer (born Paula Mairer, March 6, 1959, in St. Justina, Austria) is an ultra-distance runner. She works as a secretary and lives in Vienna. Surasa is a devotee of the spiritual master Sri Chinmoy. Biography She started running in 1987 at the age of 28 years. Previously, she had not done any sports. "Since then I try the teaching of integral Yoga. A part of this teaching is sporty fitness." In September 1996, 1997, and 2002, she completed the Sri Chinmoy Ultra Trio 700 mile race (1126 km). An ultramarathon is a footrace longer than the traditional marathon distance of . The sport of running ultramarathons is called ultra running or ultra distance running. The Self-Transcendence 6- & 10-day Race are two concurrent multiday running events, held in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, a large public park in the borough of Queens in New York City. The course is one mile (1.6 km) long. They are held annually in April and organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. History and records The Team held a 1000-mile race in the spring of 1985, and later in the year held the first Sri Chinmoy Five Day Race at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, which lasted for three consecutive years and led to the Seven-Day Race, the forerunner of today's Ten Day event. Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race
The Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race is the world's longest certified footrace. In 1996 Sri Chinmoy created this event as a 2,700-mile (4,345 km) race. At the award ceremony that year he declared that the 1997 edition would be extended to 3,100 miles (4,989 km). This race, which lasts several weeks, is hosted by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team and takes place every summer in Queens, New York City. The course is 3,100 miles (4,989 km) long.
