''Subjects'' is the seventh studio album by American instrumental progressive metal band Scale the Summit. The album was self-released on June 25, 2021, and was produced by the band's guitarist Chris Letchford. It is the band's first album that is not instrumental, featuring vocals performed by guest musicians. The album was elected by ''PopMatters'' as the 10th best progressive metal album of 2021. Scale The Summit
Scale the Summit is an American instrumental progressive metal band formed in Houston, Texas in 2004. The band comprises guitarist Chris Letchford, bassist Kilian Duarte and drummer Charlie Engen. They were signed to Prosthetic Records before the band decided to release their work independently. The band is influenced by other progressive acts such as Cynic and Dream Theater. The band gained notice as part of the Progressive Nation 2009 tour with Dream Theater, Zappa Plays Zappa and Bigelf. History Formation and early years (2004–2007) Chris Letchford and Travis Levrier grew up in the same neighborhood, but never played music together until 2004, after they reconnected a few years earlier in a record store discussing a common interest, Between the Buried and Me. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter. The music typically showcases the extreme technical proficiency of the performers and usually uses unorthodox Chord progression, harmonies as well as complex rhythms with frequent Metre (music), meter changes and intense syncopation. Djent
Djent () is a subgenre of progressive metal, termed for an onomatopoeia of the guitar sound that characterizes it. While sources such as ''The Guardian'' and ''Guitar World'' describe djent as a Music genre, genre, some notable musicians including Randy Blythe (Lamb of God (band), Lamb of God) and Stephen Carpenter (Deftones) say it is not. Chris Letchford
Chris Letchford (born October 7, 1984) is an American guitarist. He is the lead guitarist in the instrumental progressive metal band Scale the Summit. His technical ability has been recognized in magazines such as ''Guitar World'', ''Revolver'', and All Metal Resource. Background Letchford began playing guitar when he was 8 years old. He had over 6 years of private guitar lessons before applying to the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, majoring in the Guitar Craft program and then the Guitar Performance program, GIT. Along with this education, he also attended Berklee College of Music with a major in music. While at the Musicians Institute, he formed Scale the Summit with his friend and fellow guitarist Travis Levrier, and drummer Pat Skeffington, whom they met there in 2004. ''In a World of Fear'' is the sixth studio album by American instrumental progressive metal band Scale the Summit. The album was self-released on May 19, 2017, and was produced by the band's guitarist Chris Letchford. It is their first album to be released independently since ''Monument''. It is the band's first album with drummer Charlie Engen and bassist Kilian Duarte. It is also the band's first album to feature guest musicians. Background and recording On October 17, 2016, Scale the Summit announced that they are writing new material for the forthcoming album. On December 20, after a rocky few months of accusations and line-up changes, the band headed back to the studio. The recording sessions begun on January 7. February 1, 2017, the group have announced that they have completed tracking their new album and are mixing it. The Reign Of Kindo
The Reign of Kindo is an American rock band originating from Buffalo, New York, currently based out of New York City. They produce and release their music independently. They finance the creation of their recordings and videos by writing, producing and releasing a new original recording every month to their supporters on Patreon. History The band formed in late 2006 from the remaining members of This Day and Age. On August 21, 2007, the band released their first record, an EP entitled simply "'' The Reign of Kindo EP''". The EP was a regional sales success, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Middle Atlantic Heatseekers chart. Courtney LaPlante
Courtney LaPlante (born February 26, 1989) is an American singer best known as the lead vocalist of the Canadian Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Spiritbox. Born in the United States, LaPlante began singing in bands as a teenager after moving to Canada. She first gained success as the lead singer of the now-defunct American metalcore band Iwrestledabearonce. As the successor of the band's original vocalist, LaPlante recorded and performed with the band from 2012 until 2015. She left the group months after the release of her second album with them, ''Hail Mary (Iwrestledabearonce album), Hail Mary'' (2015). In 2016, LaPlante returned to Canada with longtime bandmate Mike Stringer, where the two married; they have played together in each of LaPlante's bands. Desiring to have their own creative identity following their experience in Iwrestledabearonce, the pair founded Spiritbox in 2017.
