''In a World of Fear'' is the sixth studio album by American instrumental progressive metal band Scale the Summit. The album was self-released on May 19, 2017, and was produced by the band's guitarist Chris Letchford. It is their first album to be released independently since ''Monument''. It is the band's first album with drummer Charlie Engen and bassist Kilian Duarte. It is also the band's first album to feature guest musicians. Background and recording On October 17, 2016, Scale the Summit announced that they are writing new material for the forthcoming album. On December 20, after a rocky few months of accusations and line-up changes, the band headed back to the studio. The recording sessions begun on January 7. February 1, 2017, the group have announced that they have completed tracking their new album and are mixing it. Scale The Summit
Scale the Summit is an American instrumental progressive metal band formed in Houston, Texas in 2004. The band comprises guitarist Chris Letchford, bassist Kilian Duarte and drummer Charlie Engen. They were signed to Prosthetic Records before the band decided to release their work independently. The band is influenced by other progressive acts such as Cynic and Dream Theater. The band gained notice as part of the Progressive Nation 2009 tour with Dream Theater, Zappa Plays Zappa and Bigelf. Carving Desert Canyons
''Carving Desert Canyons'' is the second studio album by American instrumental progressive metal band Scale the Summit. It was released on February 17, 2009, through Prosthetic Records. The album was self-produced by the band and Tom Beaujour. It is the band's first studio release with the label. The cover art of this album is taken from The Wave, a sandstone rock formation in Arizona. The album's cover art was taken by a local Houston photographer, who sent them his portfolio of pictures to choose from; the eventual cover art was the first photograph Chris Letchford saw in the portfolio. By contrast to their first album, Letchford described ''Carving Desert Canyons'' as "a lot more organized than their debut, in addition to being better produced as it was funded by an actual record label." Nick Johnston is a Canadian guitarist and songwriter who records as a solo artist. As of 2024, he has released six solo records. His albums have featured the work of notable artists such as Paul Gilbert, Marco Minnemann, Guthrie Govan, and Bryan Beller. He has also played on songs by other artists, including Intervals, Scale the Summit, Periphery, Polyphia, and Mike Dawes, and he has toured with Plini, among other artists. Angel Vivaldi (born June 13, 1985) is an American guitarist, songwriter and producer. He began his solo career in 2003. Vivaldi has self-released five records, ''Revelations'', ''The Speed of Dark, Universal Language, Away with Words: Part 1'', and ''Synapse''. In 2015, he released a cover of Joe Satriani's "Crystal Planet" single. Vivaldi is known for his virtuoso guitar playing style and cinematic music videos. Jeff Loomis
Jeff Loomis (born September 14, 1971) is an American musician, best known for his role as lead guitarist in the progressive metal band Nevermore during its existence from 1991 to 2011, as well as brief tenures in its precursor, Sanctuary (band), Sanctuary. In 2014, he joined Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, and in 2021 he joined Alcatrazz, Graham Bonnet's Alcatrazz as well. He left Arch Enemy in 2023. In 2023, ''Rolling Stone'' named Young the 155th greatest guitarist of all time. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter.
