Addams Stratton McAllister
Addams Stratton McAllister (February 24, 1875 – November 26, 1946) was an American electrical engineer and editor. Career He was educated at Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania State College (B.S. 1898; E.E., 1900) and at Cornell University (M.M.E., 1901; Ph.D., 1905). He was employed by the Berwind-White Coal Mining Company in 1898 and by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation (1886), Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company in 1899. He was associate editor (1905–12) and thereafter editor of the ''Electrical World''. He contributed many articles on engineering subjects to technical publications. In 1915, he was president of the Illuminating Engineering Society. In 1921 he joined the Bureau of Standards as a liaison officer, progressing in 1926 to head the Division of Specifications and to Assistant Director in 1929. Fred Stratton
Frederick Stratton (8 October 1913 – 2 April 2001) was an English haematologist and an internationally recognized expert in blood transfusion. He is known for discovering one of the ''Rh'' allelomorphs. Stratton was born in Levenshulme, Manchester, England. After education at the Central Manchester Grammar School, he matriculated in 1931 at the University of Manchester, graduating in 1934 with BSc. He then studied medicine at the medical school of the University of Manchester, qualifying there MB ChB Manchester in 1937. After a brief time as a general practitioner, he joined in 1940 the Manchester Blood Depot as a medical officer and was soon appointed deputy to the director, John Frederick Wilkinson (1897–1998). In 1946 Stratton was appointed regional blood transfusion officer. He was the director of the Manchester Blood Centre from 1949 to 1980. With his deputy directory, Peter H. Julius Adams Stratton (May 18, 1901 – June 22, 1994) was a U.S. electrical engineer and university administrator. He attended the University of Washington for one year, where he was admitted to the Zeta Psi fraternity, then transferred to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1923 and a master's degree in electrical engineering (EE) in 1926. He then followed graduate studies in Europe and the Technische Hochschule of Zürich (ETH Zurich), Switzerland, awarded him the degree of Doctor of Science in 1927. James Robert Stratton (May 3, 1857 – April 19, 1916) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Peterborough West in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1886 to 1904 and in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 1911 as a Liberal member. He was born in Millbrook, Durham County, Canada West in 1857, the son of James Stratton, an Irish immigrant and later customs collector at Peterborough. He married E.J. Ormond in 1881. Stratton was publisher of the ''Peterborough Examiner'' and also sold books, stationery, and wallpaper. He served as a member of the Board of Education in Peterborough. Stratton was Provincial Secretary and Registrar from 1899 to 1904. After being elected in 1908, he ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in the House of Commons in 1911. Helen Isobel Mansfield Ramsey Stratton (5 April 1867 – 4 June 1961) was a British artist and book illustrator. Biography Stratton was born in Nowganj, Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh, India on 5 April 1867, the daughter of a surgeon in the Indian military service John Proudfoot Stratton and Georgina Anne Anderson. Soon after Helen's birth, and following her father's retirement, the family moved to England, settling in Bath. By 1891 Helen was in Kensington, London to attend art school, where she became a follower of Art Nouveau in the style of the Glasgow School of Art. For many years she lived and worked as a book illustrator and painter in Kensington with her widowed mother and siblings. Stratton remained unmarried and in the 1930s she returned to Bath, living at The Bungalow, Widcombe Hill. She died on 4 June 1961, age 95, at Cran Hill Nursing Home, Weston.
