''Somethingness'' is the ninth studio album by Canadian alternative rock band Our Lady Peace (OLP). Produced under Warner Music Records label by Jason Lader, who also produced their preceding album ''Curve'', this is the band's first studio album in nearly six years and it was promoted using the PledgeMusic platform, a website which facilitates musicians reaching out to their fans to market and distribute music. It is the first OLP album to have been released in two separate volumes; ''Vol. 1'' was released as an EP in August 2017, and the remainder of the album (initially referred to as ''Vol. 2'') was released on February 23, 2018, and contained all of the songs from ''Vol. 1''. The album is the first not to feature original drummer Jeremy Taggart, who departed from the band in 2014, and is the first to feature Jason Pierce, who replaced Taggart in 2016. Our Lady Peace (sometimes shortened to OLP) is a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1992. Led by lead vocalist Raine Maida since its formation, the band currently also features Duncan Coutts on bass, Steve Mazur on guitars, and Jason Pierce on drums. The band has sold several million albums worldwide, won four Juno Awards, and won ten MuchMusic Video Awards—the most MMVAs ever awarded to a band (tied with Billy Talent). Nineteen of their singles have reached the Top 10 on one of Canada's singles charts (those being the overall Singles Chart, the Rock Chart and the Alternative Rock Chart). Between 1996 and 2016, Our Lady Peace was the third best-selling Canadian band and the ninth best-selling Canadian artist overall in Canada. Spiritual Machines 2
''Spiritual Machines 2'' is the tenth studio album from Canadian alternative rock band Our Lady Peace, a sequel to their 2000 art rock concept album ''Spiritual Machines''. The album was produced by Dave Sitek, and released through BMG's Shelter Music Group in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT) on October 29, 2021. All 500 NFTs were reported sold out in January 2022. A traditional release of the album happened on January 28 and a multi-media tour was scheduled to begin in June 2022. The album, along with its thematic predecessor, is influenced by the 1999 Ray Kurzweil book ''The Age of Spiritual Machines''. ''Spiritual Machines 2'' was inspired by Kurzweil following up in the 2020s on his predictions made in the 1990s. Steven Theodore Mazur (born December 21, 1977) is an American guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist for alternative rock band Our Lady Peace. Mazur replaced original band guitarist Mike Turner in 2002. Life and career Early life Mazur has two sisters and two stepsisters and grew up in Richmond, Michigan, attending Cardinal Mooney Catholic College Preparatory High School in Marine City. He graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2000. At the commencement ceremony, he performed a solo acoustic guitar version of "Think About It," written by Herb Alpert, Will Calhoun, and Doug Wimbish. Duncan Coutts
Robert Duncan Coutts is a Canadian musician, best known for being the bassist for Our Lady Peace since 1995. Career Our Lady Peace Coutts joined Our Lady Peace on September 23, 1995, replacing Chris Eacrett after the band's debut album '' Naveed'' was produced. Before joining Our Lady Peace, he went to Ridley College and studied film at Toronto's Ryerson University, graduating from The University of Western Ontario in 1993. He lived in Saugeen-Maitland Hall at the University of Western Ontario along with fellow Our Lady Peace band member Mike Turner. This resulted in him not immediately joining Our Lady Peace, but waiting until after their debut album, ''Naveed''. Jason Pierce is a Canadian drummer, currently the drummer of the Canadian band Our Lady Peace since 2016. Career During the 2000s, Pierce was a member of the Canadian band The Weekend. In 2012, Pierce performed drums on the Evans Blue album ''Graveyard of Empires''. He was also the drummer for Treble Charger for a time. In 2014, while in search of a replacement drummer, Our Lady Peace enlisted Pierce to perform during live shows. In 2016, he officially joined the band as their full-time drummer. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively.
