Shane Meehan
Shane Meehan (born 2002) is an Irish hurler who plays for Clare Senior Championship club Banner GAA and at inter-county level with the Clare senior hurling team. Career A member of the Banner club in Ennis, Meehan first came to prominence as a dual player at juvenile and underage levels and as a schoolboy with Rice College. He made his first appearance on the inter-county scene as a dual player with the Clare minor teams in 2018. Meehan captained the minor footballers the following season and was the minor hurling team's top scorer. He ended the 2019 season as Munster Minor Footballer of the Year, while he was also named on the Minor Hurling Team of the Year. Meehan subsequently progressed to under-20 level where he continued as a dual player. He joined the Clare senior hurling team in 2021. Banner GAA
Banner GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. The club fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Located on the Shanaway Road on the outskirts of Ennis, County Clare, Banner GAA Club was founded in 1977. The club has spent most of its existence operating in the junior grade. Banner GAA Club celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2017 by claiming a double of junior titles. Further success was claimed in 2020 when the club claimed another double. The winning of the Clare JAFC title that year secured intermediate status for the club for the first time in their history. Banner also represented Clare in the 2022 Munster Club JHC. The 2024 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final, the 137th event of its kind and the culmination of the 2024 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, was played at Croke Park on 21 July 2024. Clare won the game after extra-time by 3-29 to 1-34, to claim their fifth All-Ireland title. The match was televised nationally on RTÉ2 as part of ''The Sunday Game'' live programme, presented by Joanne Cantwell from the Croke Park studio with analysis by Anthony Daly, Dónal Óg Cusack and Liam Sheedy. Commentary on the game was provided by Marty Morrissey alongside Michael Duignan. The game was also televised on BBC Two for the first time and internationally on GAAGO. 2024 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 2024 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship is due to be the 137th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament, since its establishment in 1887. The 2024 championship is scheduled to begin with county tournaments in April and end with the All-Ireland Final on 21 July. Limerick will enter the championship as defending champions having won the previous four championships. 2024 Fitzgibbon Cup
The 2024 Fitzgibbon Cup was the 107th staging of the Fitzgibbon Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1912. The draw for the group stage fixtures took place on 5 December 2023. The competition ran from 17 January to 17 February 2024. University of Limerick were the defending champions. The Fitzgibbon Cup final was played on 17 February 2024 at Tom Healy Park in Abbeydorney, between Mary Immaculate College and University of Limerick, in what was their second meeting in the final overall and a first meeting in eight years. Fitzgibbon Cup
The Fitzgibbon Cup ( ga, Corn Mhic Giobúin) is the trophy for the premier hurling championship among higher education institutions (universities, colleges and institutes of technology) in Ireland. The Fitzgibbon Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. Comhairle Ard Oideachais also oversees the Ryan Cup (tier 2 hurling championship), the Fergal Maher Cup (tier 3 hurling championship) and the Padraig MacDiarmada (tier 4 hurling championship). The GAA Higher Education Cups are sponsored by Electric Ireland. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire, London and Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. 2019 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The 2019 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 89th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship began on 27 April 2019 and ended on 18 August 2019. Galway were the defending champions. On 18 August 2019, Galway won the championship after a 3-14 to 0-12 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 13th title overall and their third title in succession. Competition Format The championship begins on a provincial basis in only two of the four provinces – Munster and Leinster. There is no Ulster Championship as Ulster teams participate in the Leinster Championship.
