Banner GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. The club fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Located on the Shanaway Road on the outskirts of Ennis, County Clare, Banner GAA Club was founded in 1977. The club has spent most of its existence operating in the junior grade. Banner GAA Club celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2017 by claiming a double of junior titles. Further success was claimed in 2020 when the club claimed another double. The winning of the Clare JAFC title that year secured intermediate status for the club for the first time in their history. Banner also represented Clare in the 2022 Munster Club JHC. Ennis
Ennis ( , meaning 'island' or 'river meadow') is the county town of County Clare, in the mid-west of Ireland. The town lies on the River Fergus, north of where the river widens and enters the Shannon Estuary. Ennis is the largest town in County Clare, with a population of 27,923, making it the 6th largest town, and 11th largest urban settlement, as of the 2022 census. Dating from the 12th century the town's Irish name is short for , deriving from its location between two courses of the River Fergus. Hurling (, ') is an outdoor Team sport, team game of ancient Gaelic culture, Gaelic Irish origin, played by men and women. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football (; short name '')'', commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA, or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or palming the ball into the other team's Goal (sport), goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). The Double (Gaelic Games)
The Double is a term in Gaelic games that refers to a county winning the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in the same year. Other major trophies won in combination in the same year at minor or under-21 levels are also often referred to as doubles. Similarly, the winning of the All-Ireland and the National League titles in the same year may also be referred to as the Double, albeit an inferior one. The Clare Junior A Football Championship (abbreviated to Clare JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football club competition organised by the Clare County Board of the GAA for clubs below the Intermediate and Senior grades. Clare Intermediate Football Championship
The Clare Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the second tier football teams in the county of Clare in Ireland. The 2024 Intermediate Champions are Wolfe Tones who defeated Naomh Eoin by 2-11 to 2-07 to win their sixth title at this grade. Format The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final usually being played at Cusack Park. The championship includes a group stage which is followed by a knock-out phase for the top teams. Clare Junior Hurling Championship is the third-tier hurling competition organized by the Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The competition is confined to clubs organised by Clare GAA. The winners usually will play in the intermediate grade the following year for the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship.
