Schema Records is a prominent Italian record label in Milan, Italy, that specializes in jazz, Brazilian, and Latin-influenced music. Schema is a sublabel of Ishtar a recording and publishing company based in Milan, which runs the sublabels Schema Rearward, Sensible, Summer Dawn, Big Sur Recordings and Milano 2000. Schema was founded in 1997 by Luciano Cantone and Davide Rosa. Benny Bailey
Ernest Harold "Benny" Bailey (August 13, 1925 – April 14, 2005) was an American jazz trumpeter. Biography A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Bailey briefly studied flute and piano before turning to trumpet. He attended the Cleveland Conservatory of Music. He was influenced by Cleveland native Tadd Dameron and had a significant influence on other Cleveland musicians, such as Albert Ayler, Bob Cunningham, Bobby Few, Bill Hardman, and Frank Wright. Bailey played with Tony Lovano, father of Joe Lovano. In the early 1940s he worked with Bull Moose Jackson and Scatman Crothers. He later worked with Dizzy Gillespie and toured with Lionel Hampton. During a European tour with Hampton he remained in Europe and spent time in Sweden, where he worked with Harry Arnold's big band. Eraldo Volonté
Eraldo Volonté (February 5, 1918, Milan - October 23, 2003, Milan) was an Italian jazz saxophonist and bandleader. Volonté initially played as a violinist before picking up tenor sax in the mid-1930s. He worked as a sideman in a variety of groups, under Enzo Ceraglioni, Kramer Gorni, Bruno Martelli, and Aldo Rossi among others. In 1948 he began working with Gil Cuppini, an association that would last into the 1970s. In the 1950s he played in Glauco Masetti's sextet and with Piero Umiliani; in the 1960s, he would continue to work with Umiliani as well as with Giorgio Gaslini toward the end of the decade. Johnny Griffin
John Arnold Griffin III (April 24, 1928 – July 25, 2008) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Nicknamed "the Little Giant" for his short stature and forceful playing, Griffin's career began in the mid-1940s and continued until the month of his death. A pioneering figure in hard bop, Griffin recorded prolifically as a bandleader in addition to stints with pianist Thelonious Monk, drummer Art Blakey, in partnership with fellow tenor Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and as a member of the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band after he moved to Europe in the 1960s. In 1995, Griffin was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music. The Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band was a jazz big band co-led by American drummer Kenny Clarke and Belgian pianist François "Francy" Boland. They were one of the most noteworthy jazz big bands formed outside the United States, featuring top European musicians alongside expatriate and touring Americans. Nicola Conte is an Italian DJ, producer, guitarist, and bandleader, known initially for introducing an innovative style of acid jazz that incorporates bossa nova themes, melodies drawn from Italian film scores of the 1960s, easy listening themes, and traditional Indian music. Recently, he has focused much more on Latin jazz. This focus is evident in his albums ''Other Directions'' (2004, Blue Note & Schema) and ''Rituals'' (2008, Schema), and many remixes he has done for contemporaries stretching across many closely related genres. Piero Umiliani (17 July 1926 – 14 February 2001) was an Italian composer of film scores. Biography Umiliani was born in Florence, Tuscany.
