Samuel Altshuler
Samuel Altshuler (September 16, 1864 – January 13, 1956) was a clothing merchant, mine owner, and industrial developer in the states of Washington and California. He opened and owned clothing stores in Whatcom, Washington (later Bellingham), and his native San Francisco, California, and built several business buildings in both cities. In Whatcom, Altshuler took an active role in development of industrial companies into valuable businesses. He helped establish the city's first National Guard division and fire department. He was an active participant in discussions regarding building the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad line through Bellingham. In California, Altshuler owned the Monitor (or Plumas National) mine and the Jackson Gold Mine, and was the secretary of the Plumas Copper King Mines Corporation. A merchant is a person who trades in goods produced by other people, especially one who trades with foreign countries. Merchants have been known for as long as humans have engaged in trade and commerce. Merchants and merchant networks operated in ancient Babylonia, Assyria, China, Egypt, Greece, India, Persia, Phoenicia and Rome. During the European medieval period, a rapid expansion in trade and commerce led to the rise of a wealthy and powerful merchant class. The city of Shasta Lake, known as Central Valley or CV prior to incorporation, is a city in Shasta County, California, United States. It is the closest settlement to Shasta Dam and Shasta Lake reservoir, which are popular tourist destinations. Its population is 10,371 as of the 2020 census, up from 10,164 from the 2010 census. Edward Gardner Lewis
Edward Gardner Lewis (March 4, 1869 – August 10, 1950) was an American magazine publisher, land development promoter, and political activist. He was the founder of two planned communities that are now cities: University City, Missouri, and Atascadero, California. He created the American Woman's League (1907), a benefits fund for women who sold magazine subscriptions, as well as the American Woman's Republic (1911), a parallel organization designed to help women prepare themselves for a future in which they would have the right to vote. Quincy, California
Quincy (formerly Quinsy) is a census-designated place and the county seat of Plumas County, California. The population was 1,630 during the 2020 Census, down from 1,728 during the 2010 Census, and 1,879 during the 2000 Census. History Before the settlers arrived in the area during the 1850s, it was inhabited by the Maidu tribe because of the American Valley's source of water, fertile soil and favorable weather conditions. Quincy started as a Gold Rush town, associated with the former Elizabethtown, California. Starting in 1852, Elizabethtown slowly faded.
