Roger C. Schultz
Roger C. Schultz (born October 13, 1945) is a retired United States Army lieutenant general who served as director of the Army National Guard. Early life Roger Charles Schultz was born in Le Mars, Iowa on October 13, 1945. He graduated from LeMars Community School in 1963 and enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1967. Schultz is a licensed airplane pilot (Commercial and Multi-Engine Land Instrument Rating). Vietnam war In 1968, Schultz was called to active duty as a member of the Iowa National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 133rd Infantry. After training at Fort Carson, Colorado, he served in Vietnam with 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment in 1969, first as a rifle platoon leader, and later as a scout platoon leader. Le Mars is the county seat of Plymouth County, Iowa, United States. It is located on the Floyd River northeast of Sioux City. The population was 10,571 at the time of the 2020 census. Le Mars is part of the Sioux City metropolitan area. Vietnam Service Medal
The Vietnam Service Medal is a military award of the United States Armed Forces established on 8 July 1965 by order of President Lyndon B. Johnson. The medal is awarded to recognize service during the Vietnam War by all members of the U.S. Armed Forces provided they meet the award requirements. Cavalry Scout is the job title of someone who has achieved the military occupational specialty of 19D Armored Reconnaissance Specialist in the Combat Arms branch of the United States Army. As with all enlisted soldiers in the United States Cavalry, the person holding the Scout specialization will still be referred to as a "Trooper", the traditional colloquialism denoted in the cavalry's Order of the Spur.
