Ashgabat or Asgabat ( tk, Aşgabat, ; fa, عشقآباد, translit='Ešqābād, formerly named Poltoratsk ( rus, Полтора́цк, p=pəltɐˈratsk) between 1919 and 1927), is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan. It lies between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag mountain range in Central Asia, near the Iran-Turkmenistan border. Football Club Arkadag ( Turkmen: ''Arkadag Futbol Kluby'') is a professional football club based in Arkadag, Turkmenistan. Founded in 2023, the club plays in the Ýokary Liga, becoming the reigning champion in its first season. History Competing in the Turkmenistan top flight right from its foundiation, they have undergone criticism by fans who have accused them of being favored by the authorities in the 2023 Ýokary Liga. Ahal Änew Football Club ( tk, Ahal Änew Futbol Kluby), or simply Ahal FC, is a Turkmen professional association football club based in the Änew, Ahal Province. Founded in 1989, the club played its first-ever top flight season in 1992. The club plays its home matches at the 20,000 seater Ashgabat Stadium.
