Ron Dermer
Ronald Dermer (; born April 16, 1971) is an Israeli politician and diplomat serving as the Minister of Strategic Affairs since 2022 and as head of the negotiations for hostages release since February 2025. He served as the Israeli Ambassador to the United States from 2013 to 2021. Early life Dermer was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida to Jay Dermer, a lawyer from New York who was Mayor of Miami Beach from 1967 to 1971 after defeating Elliott Roosevelt and Yaffa, née Rosenthal, born in Mandate Palestine. Her parents, Joseph and Rivka, had fled growing antisemitism in Poland and Germany in the 1930s. A few years after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the family emigrated to Florida. Dermer visited Israel during his childhood to see his grandmother Rivka who returned to live there after Joseph’s death. The Ministry of Strategic Affairs and Public Diplomacy (, ''HaMisrad LeNos'im Astrategi'im'') is an Israeli government ministry responsible for leading the campaign of expanding the Abraham Accords and the handling of ties on White House matters. The ministry’s former responsibility was leading a campaign against the BDS movement. History The Ministry was created in 2006 for Avigdor Lieberman, whose Yisrael Beiteinu party had just joined the governing coalition. David Dermer
David Dermer (born 1963) was a Miami Beach City Commissioner before being elected as their Mayor. He is a lifelong Democrat, but supported George W. Bush for United States president in 2004. His brother is Ron Dermer, the former Israeli ambassador to the US and the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs since 2022 to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
