The Frente Amplio (Spanish for Broad Front, FA) was a Chilean political coalition founded in early 2017, composed of left-wing parties and movements. Its first electoral contest was the 2017 Chilean general election, where their presidential candidate Beatriz Sánchez came third with 20% of the vote in the first round of election (she just missed getting to the second-round run-off by 3%). The Frente Amplio also expanded their electoral representation to 20 deputies (out of 155), 1 senator (out of 43) and 21 out of 278 Regional Councillors, thus consolidating the movement as the 'third force' in Chilean politics. In July 2024, its member parties merged into the new Frente Amplio (Chilean political party), Frente Amplio political party. Trotskyist Fraction – Fourth International
The Trotskyist Fraction – Fourth International (TF-FI) is a political international of Trotskyist political organizations that claim to adhere to the political legacy of the Fourth International. History It has its origin in the expelled Internationalist Bolshevik Faction of the Movement for Socialism (MAS). MAS was the Argentine section of the International Workers League (IWL-FI). The Internationalist Bolshevik Faction regarded itself initially as an "external fraction" of the MAS/IWL-FI who had been wrongly expelled, and demanded the overturning of its expulsion. The Internationalist Bolshevik Faction became the Socialist Workers' Party (PTS) in 1988. In 1989 the ''Partido Obrero Socialista (POS)'' in Mexico, later renamed ''Liga de Trabajadores Socialistas (LTS)'', was also expelled from the IWL-FI. The PTS and the POS founded the ''Internationalist Faction of the IWL-FI (IFIWL-FI)'' in 1989. From 1988 to 1990 the PTS had three splits: first when a number of militan ...

Political Parties Established In 2017
Politics () is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations among individuals, such as the distribution of status or resources. The branch of social science that studies politics and government is referred to as political science. Politics may be used positively in the context of a "political solution" which is compromising and non-violent, or descriptively as "the art or science of government", but the word often also carries a negative connotation.. The concept has been defined in various ways, and different approaches have fundamentally differing views on whether it should be used extensively or in a limited way, empirically or normatively, and on whether conflict or co-operation is more essential to it. A variety of methods are deployed in politics, which include promoting one's own political views among people, negotiation with other political subjects, making laws, and exercising internal and external fo ...

Far-left Politics In Chile
Far-left politics, also known as extreme left politics or left-wing extremism, are politics further to the left on the left–right political spectrum than the standard political left. The term does not have a single, coherent definition; some scholars consider it to be the left of communist parties, while others broaden it to include the left of social democracy. In certain instances—especially in the news media—''far left'' has been associated with some forms of authoritarianism, anarchism, communism, and Marxism, or are characterized as groups that advocate for revolutionary socialism and related communist ideologies, or anti-capitalism and anti-globalization. Far-left terrorism consists of extremist, militant, or insurgent groups that attempt to realize their ideals through political violence rather than using democratic processes. Ideologies Far-left politics are the leftmost ideologies on the left of the left–right political spectrum. They are a heterogeneous ...

Communist Parties In Chile
Communism () is a sociopolitical, philosophical, and economic ideology within the socialist movement, whose goal is the creation of a communist society, a socioeconomic order centered on common ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange that allocates products in society based on need.: "One widespread distinction was that socialism socialised production only while communism socialised production and consumption." A communist society entails the absence of private property and social classes, and ultimately money and the state. Communists often seek a voluntary state of self-governance but disagree on the means to this end. This reflects a distinction between a libertarian socialist approach of communization, revolutionary spontaneity, and workers' self-management, and an authoritarian socialist, vanguardist, or party-driven approach to establish a socialist state, which is expected to wither away. Communist parties have been described as radical lef ...

Santiago Metropolitan Region
Santiago Metropolitan Region () is one of Chile's 16 first-order administrative divisions. It is the country's only landlocked administrative region and contains the nation's capital, Santiago. Most commercial and administrative centers are located in the region, including Chile's main international airport, Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport. With an area of and population over seven million, it is Chile's most populated and most densely populated region. History The region's history of European influence started in 1542, a few days after Santiago was founded. When the Santiago cabildo was built, its function was to supervise the entire territory. Later, with the creation of the cities of La Serena and Concepción and the creation of their respective cabildos, its territorial reach was reduced. On 30 August 1826, 8 provinces were created, with the Santiago Province being one of them, but it wasn't until 1980 that the Metropolitan Region was created. Geography ...
