Polohy Raion
Polohy Raion ( uk, Пологівський район) is one of the 5 raions (districts) of Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine. The administrative center of the region is the town of Polohy. Population: . The district was established in accordance with the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine № 807-IX of July 17, 2020. It included: urban hromadas: Tokmak, Ukraine, Tokmatska, Huliaipole, Huliaipilska, Orikhiv, Orikhivska, Polohy, Polohivska, Molochansk, Molochanska and the following rural hromadas: Bilmatska, Komysh-Zoryanska, Rozivska settlements, Vozdvyzhivska, Malynivska, Smyrnovska, Malotokmachanska, Preobrazhenska, Voskresenska, Fedoralni territories. On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Zaporizhzhia Oblast was reduced to five, and the area of Polohy Raion was significantly expanded. City of regional significance ( uk, місто обласного значення, ''misto oblasnoho znachennia'') in Ukraine was a type of second-level administrative division or municipality, the other type being raions (districts). Molochansk
Molochansk (, ; russian: Молочанск) is a city in Tokmak Raion of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine. It is located at around . The river Molochna flows through the city. Population: . History Molochansk was founded in 1804 by Plautdietsch-speaking Mennonite settlers who were invited by Empress Catherine the Great to settle on the vast steppes of the Tsar's Russian empire. They called the new village "Halbstadt". Mennonites had earlier, in 1789, founded the Chortitza Colony at the invitation of Catherine the Great. It was the successful founding of Chortitza that encouraged expansion into the Molochna River region. By 1850, there were over 50 Mennonite villages south and east of Molochansk/Halbstadt. Orikhiv ( uk, Орі́хів, ) is a city in Polohy Raion, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine. As of January 2022 its population was approximately History Orikhiv was founded in about 1783 near the Konka River; it was incorporated in 1801. It is situated about southeast of Aleksandrovsk (today Zaporizhzhia), and almost the same distance north of the Molochna Kolonia (''Milk Colony''). In 1818 Orikhiv appeared to be a place where military personnel of the Czar were stationed; an officer from Orikhiv came out to finalize arrangements for the Czar's visit to Lindenau in May of that year. Huliaipole
Huliaipole ( uk, Гуляйполе ; ) is a city in Polohy Raion, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine. It is known as the birthplace of Ukrainian anarchist revolutionary Nestor Makhno. Tokmak ( uk, Токмак, ) is a city in Polohy Raion in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast (province) of south-central Ukraine. The city stands on the River Tokmachka, a tributary of the River Tokmak. A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as " district" in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. An oblast ( uk, о́бласть; ) in Ukraine, often called a region or province, is the main type of first-level administrative division of the country. Ukraine's territory is divided into 24 oblasts, as well as one autonomous republic, Crimea, and two cities with special status, Kyiv and Sevastopol.
