Paul Gury
Paul Gury was the stage name of Loïc (Louis-Marie) Le Gouriadec (May 11, 1888 - November 13, 1974), a French-Canadian film and theatre actor, director and writer. He was most noted as the director of three significant films in the early Cinema of Quebec. Career Born in Vannes, Morbihan, France, he emigrated to Montreal, Quebec in 1907, and studied dramatic arts at the Conservatoire Lassalle.Jean Marmier, "La carrière franco-canadienne de Loïc Le Gouriadec, homme de théâtre" in ''Annales de Bretagne et des pays de l'Ouest'', Vol. 85, No. 4 (1978). pp. 631-640. Vannes (; br, Gwened) is a commune in the Morbihan department in Brittany in north-western France. It was founded over 2,000 years ago. History Celtic Era The name ''Vannes'' comes from the Veneti, a seafaring Celtic people who lived in the south-western part of Armorica in Gaul before the Roman invasions. Ici Radio-Canada Première (formerly Première Chaîne) is a Canadian French-language radio network, the news and information service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known as Société Radio-Canada in French), the public broadcaster of Canada. It is the French counterpart of CBC Radio One, the CBC's similar English-language radio network. The service is available across Canada, although not as widely as CBC Radio One. Only the provinces of Quebec and Ontario are served by more than one ''Première'' originating station. In all other provinces, the whole province is served by a single station with multiple transmitters. The network does, however, reach 90 percent of all Canadian francophones. Théâtre Du Rideau Vert
The Théâtre du Rideau Vert is a theatre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 4664 Saint Denis Street in the borough of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal. Founded in 1949 by Yvette Brind'Amour and Mercedes Palomino, the Théâtre du Rideau Vert was the first professional French-language theatre in Canada. It was also one of the first Quebec theatres to invest in the creation of local works by fostering the emergence of Felix Leclerc, Marie-Claire Blais, Gratien Gélinas, Michel Tremblay, Antonine Maillet, etc. The Théâtre du Rideau Vert is also where Michel Tremblay created the Joual piece '' Les Belles-Soeurs'' in 1968. ''The Lark'' () is a 1952 play about Joan of Arc by the French playwright Jean Anouilh. It was presented on Broadway theatre, Broadway in English in 1955, starring Julie Harris (actress), Julie Harris as Joan and Boris Karloff as Pierre Cauchon. It was produced by Kermit Bloomgarden. Lillian Hellman made the English adaptation and Leonard Bernstein composed the incidental music. The two stars of the play reprised their roles in a 1957 television production of the play, as part of the anthology series ''Hallmark Hall of Fame''. A different television adaptation aired in 1958 in Australia. There is another English translation by Christopher Fry. Jean Marie Lucien Pierre Anouilh (; 23 June 1910 – 3 October 1987) was a French dramatist whose career spanned five decades. Though his work ranged from high drama to absurdist farce, Anouilh is best known for his 1944 play ''Antigone'', an adaptation of Sophocles' classical drama, that was seen as an attack on Marshal Pétain's Vichy government. His plays are less experimental than those of his contemporaries, having clearly organized plot and eloquent dialogue.
