Pakistani Diaspora
Overseas Pakistanis ( ur, ), or the Pakistani diaspora, refers to Pakistani people who live outside of Pakistan. These include citizens that have migrated to another country as well as people born abroad of Pakistani descent. According to the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, approximately 8.8 million Pakistanis live abroad according to December 2017 estimates, with the vast majority, over 4.7 million, residing in the Middle East. The second-largest community, at around 1.2 million, live in the United Kingdom; followed in third place by the United States (especially New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey ). According to the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Pakistan has the 6th largest diaspora in the world. In 2021, overseas Pakistanis sent record remittances with growth at 26 percent and levels reaching US$33 billion in 2021. The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development ( ur, ), abbreviated as MOPHRD) is a ministry of the Government of Pakistan that oversees matters concerning Overseas Pakistanis and human resource development in Pakistan. Ayub Afridi is the current Advisor to Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. The ministry was created in July 2013, from a merger of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Emigrants
Emigration is the act of leaving a resident country or place of residence with the intent to settle elsewhere (to permanently leave a country). Conversely, immigration describes the movement of people into one country from another (to permanently move to a country). Computerised National Identity Card
The Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) ( ur, قومی شناختی کارڈ) is an identity card issued by Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The card is available to any citizen of Pakistan who is 18 years of age or older. The CNIC is a computerised version of the National Identity Card (NIC). History Pakistan initiated its National Identity Card System in 1973 under Article 30 of the Second Amendment. The card was issued manually in a hand-written paper form by the Directorate General of Registration (DGR) with the first NIC being that of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the Prime Minister of the time. The country moved to a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) in 2000 after the formation of National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA). Remittance
A remittance is a non-commercial transfer of money by a foreign worker, a member of a diaspora community, or a citizen with familial ties abroad, for household income in their home country or homeland. Money sent home by migrants competes with international aid as one of the largest financial inflows to developing countries. Workers' remittances are a significant part of international capital flows, especially with regard to labor-exporting countries. British Pakistanis ( ur, (Bratānia men maqīm pākstānī); also known as Pakistani British people or Pakistani Britons) are citizens or residents of the United Kingdom whose ancestral roots lie in Pakistan. This includes people born in the UK who are of Pakistani descent, Pakistani-born people who have migrated to the UK and those of Pakistani origin from overseas who migrated to the UK.
