Police Interceptors
''Police Interceptors'' is a British factual programme that profiles the work of elite police units from across the UK. There have to date been 23 series, following police units from Essex, South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Cumbria, Lincolnshire, Durham and Cleveland, Cheshire, West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. The documentary has been broadcast by Channel 5 since the first episode on 9 May 2008. The show is produced by the same producers of the former Sky series '' Road Wars''. History The first three series follow a police ANPR Intercept Team (now known as the Territorial Support Team) in Essex. Series 1 began on 9 May 2008 on Channel 5 (as Five) and ran for six weeks with an additional compilation episode. Steve Warr is a British television director and producer. He is currently a company director of Raw Cut TV. In the 1990s, Warr was the first producer to combine police video with observational documentary in the BBC docusoap ''X-Cars''. Nottinghamshire Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing the shire county of Nottinghamshire and the unitary authority of Nottingham in the East Midlands area of England. Automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR; see also other names below) is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read vehicle registration plates to create vehicle location data. It can use existing closed-circuit television, road-rule enforcement cameras, or cameras specifically designed for the task. ANPR is used by police forces around the world for law enforcement purposes, including checking if a vehicle is registered or licensed. It is also used for electronic toll collection on pay-per-use roads and as a method of cataloguing the movements of traffic, for example by highways agencies. Boy racer is a term given to a young person who drives in a fast and aggressive manner; it has become a broader term (often pejorative) for participants in modern custom car culture who tune and modify cars with street racing-style aftermarket cosmetic and performance parts such as body kits, audio systems and exhausts.
