Amy Perlin
Amy Perlin is the first female rabbi in the United States to start her own congregation, Temple B'nai Shalom in Fairfax Station, Virginia, of which she was the founding rabbi in 1986. In 1978, she graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Near Eastern Studies, with summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. In 1980 she received a M.A.H.L. (Master of Arts in Hebrew Literature), and in 1982 she was ordained by the Reform Judaism, Reform seminary Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR). She later earned a Doctor of Divinity degree from HUC-JIR in 2007. In 2012 Perlin and fifteen other leaders of the Reform Jewish movement met with White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew. That year she was also honored by Jewish Women International (JWI) as one of its "Women to Watch". Bernard Perlin
Bernard Perlin was an American painter. He is primarily known for creating pro-war art during World War II and magic realism paintings of urban American life. Early life and education Perlin was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1918 to Davis and Anna Schireff Perlin. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Russia, and his father died when Perlin was 10 years old. Perlin grew up with two older sisters, Mildred and Jeanette. At the encouragement of a high school teacher, he was enrolled in the New York School of Design. He studied there from 1934 to 1936, the National Academy of Design with Leon Kroll in 1937, and then the Arts Student League with Isabel Bishop, William Palmer, and Harry Sternberg until 1940. He is best known for Marvel Comics' ''Werewolf by Night'', ''Moon Knight'' (a character he co-created), '' The Defenders'', and ''Ghost Rider''. Kenneth H. Perlin is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at New York University, founding director of the Media Research Lab at NYU, director of the Future Reality Lab at NYU, and the Director of the Games for Learning Institute. He holds a BA. degree in Theoretical Mathematics from Harvard University (7/1979), a MS degree in Computer Science from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University (6/1984), and a PhD degree in Computer Science from the same institution (2/1986). Marshall Perlin
Marshall Perlin (August 23, 1920 – December 31, 1998) was a civil-liberties lawyer, who along with Emanuel Hirsch Bloch, defended Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. He came to the trial after the sentencing, during the appeal process. Background Perlin was born on August 23, 1920, in Manhattan and later graduated from Rutgers University. He completed Columbia Law School in 1942, but his degree was not conferred until 1947 while he served in World War II. Career Perlin represented Michael Meeropol and Robert Meeropol, the children of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg after the Rosenbergs were sentenced. Rae Perlin (September 11, 1910 – March 5, 2006) nurse and artist born in St. John's, Newfoundland, best known for her sketches and her work as an impressionist style painter. Biography Perlin, was born on September 11, 1910, the youngest of six children of Adelle (Adams) and Israel Perlin. She was educated at Bishop Spencer College in St. John's and a private school in Ontario. She left for New York at an early age to study nursing. She graduated from nursing school in 1934 and worked as a nurse during the Great Depression and the World War II. Her passion was not nursing but art, eventually studying with Samuel Brecher and Hans Hofmann. Perlin moved to Paris in 1950 to study at Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Académie Ranson to further her art studies. From there she moved to London to study at the Polytechnic of Central London. Elizabeth Vera Perlin, OC (1902 – 1974) was a Canadian advocate for the rights of the mentally disabled and a reformer who influenced the entire school system of Newfoundland and broke new ground on a national scale with her vision and accomplishments.
