Pasteurellaceae
The Pasteurellaceae comprise a large family of Gram-negative bacteria. Most members live as commensals on mucosal surfaces of birds and mammals, especially in the upper respiratory tract. Pasteurellaceae are typically rod-shaped, and are a notable group of facultative anaerobes. Their biochemical characteristics can be distinguished from the related Enterobacteriaceae by the presence of oxidase, and from most other similar bacteria by the absence of flagella. Bacteria in the family Pasteurellaceae have been classified into a number of genera based on metabolic properties, but these classifications are not generally accurate reflections of the evolutionary relationships between different species. ''Haemophilus influenzae'' was the first organism to have its genome sequenced and has been studied intensively by genetic and molecular methodologies. The genus '' Haemophilus'' is a notorious human pathogen associated with bacteremia, pneumonia, meningitis and chancroid. Other pathogen ... Basfia
''Basfia'' is a monotypic genus of bacterium from the Pasteurellaceae family, first described in 2010. Its only species, ''Basfia succiniciproducens'', is a gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, and immobile bacterium. It was first isolated from bovine rumen in 2008. Its ability to produce relatively large quantities of succinic acid through fermentation in biomass hydrolysates is potentially important for industrial biotechnology. Features Its beneficial features include broad facultative anaerobic metabolism, genetic tractability, and substrate utilization. The bacterium is cocci to rod-shaped and, like all Pasteurellaceae, has no flagella, i.e., it cannot actively move. The bacterium is gram-negative, i.e., it only has a thin, single-layer murein envelope that does not contain any teichoic acids. Information on individual cell sizes is not scientifically documented. Colonies reach a diameter of 0.1 to 0.5 millimeters after 24 hours of growth and are colored translucent gray ... Histophilus
''Histophilus somni'' is a non-motile, gram-negative, rod or coccobacillus shaped, facultative anaerobe bacterial species belonging to the family Pasteurellaceae. Prior to 2003, it was thought ''Haemophilus somnus'', ''Histophilus ovis'', and ''Histophilus agni'' were three different species, but now are all classified as ''Histophilus somni''. ''Histophilus somni'' is a commensal bacteria of mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract and reproductive tract with a global prevalence and is found in cattle and other small ruminants. ''Histophilus somni'' is also a known causative agent that is a part of the Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) complex, which typically involves multiple pathogens residing together in biofilm environments. ''Histophilus somni'' may also cause Histophilosus symptoms and clinical presentation will depend on the tissue affected. When disease does occur, it can be difficult to catch in time and is often diagnosed post mortem. This means that treatment of ... Bisgaardia
Bisgaardia is a genus of Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacteria in the family Pasteurellaceae. The genus was first described in 2011 following the isolation of '' Bisgaardia hudsonensis'' from marine mammals, including narwhals (''Monodon monoceros'') and beluga whales (''Delphinapterus leucas''). A second species, '' Bisgaardia miroungae'', was later described from the oral cavity of a northern elephant seal (''Mirounga angustirostris''). Etymology The genus name Bisgaardia honors Danish microbiologist Morten Bisgaard for his contributions to the taxonomy of the family Pasteurellaceae. Characteristics ''Bisgaardia'' species are characterized by the following features: * Gram-negative * Rod-shaped or coccoid cells * Non-motile * Facultatively anaerobic * Oxidase-positive and catalase-positive Colonies are typically small, non-haemolytic, and greyish on blood agar. Habitat and isolation ''Bisgaardia'' species have been isolated from the oral cavity and respirator ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Spirabiliibacterium
''Spirabiliibacterium'' is a genus of Gram-negative, non-spore forming, non-motile bacteria in the family ''Pasteurellaceae''. It was established in 2019 following the reclassification of previously unclassified ''Pasteurella''-like organisms grouped under Bisgaard taxon 14 and 32. The genus includes species primarily isolated from the respiratory tract of birds. Taxonomy The genus ''Spirabiliibacterium'' was proposed by Bisgaard and Christensen in 2019 based on a combination of phenotypic, biochemical, and whole-genome sequence analyses. The genus currently includes the following species: * ''Spirabiliibacterium mucosae'' * ''Spirabiliibacterium pneumoniae'' * ''Spirabiliibacterium falconis'' The type species is ''Spirabiliibacterium mucosae''. The name is derived from the Latin ''spirabilis'' (breathable) and ''bacterium'', referring to its association with respiratory infections Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are infectious diseases involving the lower or upper respir ... Mergibacter

The type species, ''M. septicus'', was originally isolated from seabirds in Florida, specifically the common tern The common tern (''Sterna hirundo'') is a seabird in the family Laridae. This bird has a circumpolar distribution, its four subspecies breeding in Temperateness, temperate and subarctic regions of Europe, Asia and North America. It is stron .... It was originally known as Bisgaard Taxon 40 before further testing led to the creation of the novel genus and species. ''M. septicus'' was subsequently isolated from a seabird in Germany. The genus is named from the Latin word ''mergus'', which means "seabird". The lone species, ''M. septicus'', is so named because it was isolated from an outbreak of sepsis in seabirds.
