The Leander Reeve House, also known as the Old Stone House, is an historic structure located near Geneva, Iowa United States. Leander Reeve came to Franklin County from Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1853. He initially worked as a trapper until he acquired of land from Allison Phelps and began to farm. He built the stone house in 1854 and brought his family from Ohio the same year. It is the first permanent structure built in the county. His wife did not care for the pioneer lifestyle and they returned to Ohio three years later. Although some said she wanted to have her last child at her Ohio home, and she also didn't get along with her sister in law. Simeon Carter bought the house from the Reeves. His daughter and son-in-law, a lawyer named D. W. Dow, were the next people to live in the house. They were followed by 13 other families. It is one of the oldest extant structures in New Jersey, the original portion house built prior to 1680. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 22, 1991, for its significance in historic archaeology, education, community planning and development, and politics/government. With History The earliest reference to the Stone House by Stone House Brook dates to September 27, 1680, when it was mentioned in the minutes of a Newark town meeting to discuss and distribute land grants. The Michael Braun House (also known as the Old Stone House) is a historic Colonial stone house located near Granite Quarry, Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. It is the oldest known dwelling in Rowan County and one of the oldest in Piedmont North Carolina. Description and history The Michael Braun House was built over seven years on 274 acres that Braun purchased after moving to the area in the late 1750s. 3500 tons of granite came from a quarry in the area. The house is a two-story four-bay-wide stone house with two end chimneys and one-story frame kitchen wing on east side. A notable feature of the restored house is a pent roof on north and west sides. It is an example of early German Colonial architecture typical of German settlements in Pennsylvania and the country of origin, Germany. The building was the first permanent building in the community of "Stone House", renamed to "Vale" in 1887. It is a building from Oregon's early settlement period, built of local sandstone in 1872. It has imitation Italianate-style elements in its shallow hipped roof, overhanging eaves, and round arch heads over its windows and door on the first story. The Old Stone House is a historic house at 73 East Allen Street in central Winooski, Vermont. Built about 1790, it is the city's oldest building. It has served as a tavern, and as residences, and is now in use as professional offices. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Description and history The Old Stone House stands a short way east of Winooski's central Rotary Park, on the north side of East Allen Street between Cascade Way and Abenaki Way. It is a -story structure, built out of rough-cut stone and capped by a side gable roof. It has a five-bay front facade, with sash windows in the outer bays set in rectangular openings. The Old Stone House at the heart of the village is a part of the Brownington Village Historic District, a district of ten historic buildings added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. History The Old Stone House, or Athenian Hall, was built in 1836 by Alexander Twilight, the nation's first African-American college graduate. Twilight was the minister of the Brownington Congregational Church and the principal of the Orleans County Grammar School. Old Stone House (Morgantown, West Virginia)
Old Stone House is a historic home located at Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. The original section was built about 1796, and is a two-story stone structure measuring 26 feet, 8 inches, by 20 feet, 8 inches. A one-story, timber-frame addition built in the early 1900s and measures 16 feet, 7 inches, by 16 feet, 4 inches. The Old Stone House was the home of John W. Thompson, a potter in early Morgan's Town. He was able to create red ware and stoneware pots from the clay found in the basement of the house. It is one of the oldest surviving examples of rustic pioneer architecture in Monongalia County. In 1935, it became headquarters of the Morgantown Service League, who operates a gift shop in the house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
