Nigel Crawford
Nigel Crawford (born 10 October 1979, in Meath) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for St Peter's, Dunboyne and the Meath county team. Crawford made his debut for Meath in late 1998 and has been there since. He has won three Leinster medals in 1999, 2001 and in 2010 and has won one All-Ireland medal. Crawford was named as Meath captain for the 2010 Championship, captaining them to their win over Louth in the Leinster Final. St Peters Dunboyne GAA
St Peters, Dunboyne is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Dunboyne, in County Meath, Ireland. The club competes at senior level in football, hurling, Camogie and ladies football in Meath GAA competitions. The club was founded in 1902 by primary school teacher, Bob O'Keefe. The club originally only played hurling but started to play organized games of Gaelic football in the late 1940s. Currently, the club has over 1200 members, including 700 players across 60 teams. The Meath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste na Mí) or Meath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Meath, as well as for Meath county teams. Football County team The first notable Meath team was the Pierce O'Mahony's club from Navan that represented the county in the All-Ireland final of 1895, in the days when the competition was played between the champion clubs from each county. O'Mahony's lost to Arravale Rovers of Tipperary by 0-4 to 0-3. The county had to wait until 1939 for its next appearance at All-Ireland level, this time losing narrowly to Kerry by 2-5 to 2-3 in the final. In the intervening period, the county had achieved its first national success by winning the National League of 1933. Dunboyne () is a town in Meath, Ireland. It is a commuter town for Dublin. In the 20 years between the 1996 and 2016 censuses, the population of Dunboyne more than doubled from 3,080 to 7,272 inhabitants. County Meath (; gle, Contae na Mí or simply ) is a county in the Eastern and Midland Region of Ireland, within the province of Leinster. It is bordered by Dublin to the southeast, Louth to the northeast, Kildare to the south, Offaly to the southwest, Westmeath to the west, Cavan to the northwest, and Monaghan to the north. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Leinster Senior Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship and shortened to Leinster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Sunday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Delaney Cup. The Meath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Meath, Ireland. Brendan Murphy (Meath GAA)
Brendan Murphy (born 19 August 1975) is an Irish former footballer who played soccer for the Republic of Ireland U21 and B national teams and Gaelic football for the Meath county team. Career Soccer Murphy played as a goalkeeper with Bradford City and Wimbledon where he played for 5 seasons. Murphy did not play in a league match for Wimbledon, but he appeared in Intertoto Cup matches. In 1999 Murphy moved back to Ireland where he played for a season with Dundalk before returning to play his final 2-year stint in England with Kidderminster Harriers in 2000. Murphy won eight Republic of Ireland under-21 caps and one B cap. He was also called up to the senior team by manager Mick McCarthy for an away international friendly match against Wales in 1997, although he remained an unused substitute.
