National Route 1 (Argentina)
National Route 1, also known as Buenos Aires–La Plata Highway and officially called Autopista Doctor Ricardo Balbín since 2004, is a highway that connects the 25 de Mayo Highway and Paseo del Bajo in the city of Buenos Aires with the Provincial Route 11, near the city of La Plata. It has a length of with two or four lanes on each direction in different areas, and is indicated in red in the map. On km marker 31 it connects with National Route A004, the main road to the coastal tourist areas of Mar del Plata and others in Buenos Aires Province. The highway runs (from northeast to southeast) through the partidos of Avellaneda, Quilmes, Berazategui, Ensenada, and La Plata. This highway is currently operated by AUBASA ("Autopistas de Buenos Aires S.A."), a state-owned company owned by the Government of Buenos Aires Province, which also manages most routes to the cities of ''Costa Atlántica''. Berazategui Partido
Berazategui is a Partidos of Buenos Aires, partido in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. With an area of and a population of 320,224 (), it is at the southeast of the Greater Buenos Aires urban conglomerate, and its capital is Berazategui city. It was part of the Quilmes Partido until 1960. The majority of the population are concentrated in the city of Berazategui, which has an important commercial district with a pedestrian centre. Berazategui is also home to Asociación Deportiva Berazategui, a football club that play in the Primera C Metropolitana, regionalised 4th division of Argentine football. Retiro, Buenos Aires
Retiro is a ''barrio'' or neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located in the northeast end of the city, Retiro is bordered on the south by the Puerto Madero and San Nicolás, and on the west by the Recoleta. History Towards the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th was installed in the area, an asiento of slaves belonging to the Compagnie de Guinée and South Sea Company, that operated until 1739. In 1800 began the construction of Plaza de Toros del Retiro, a stadium of bullfighting built by the architect Francisco Cañete, that worked until 1819. In the Plaza de Toros took place the battles between the troops of Santiago de Liniers and the British army, occurred during the English invasions of 1806 and 1807. In 1821 was installed the first dissident cemetery of Buenos Aires, located in the vicinity of Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Socorro. Puerto Madero
Puerto Madero, also known within the urban planning community as the Puerto Madero Waterfront, is a barrio of Buenos Aires in Argentina in the central business district, occupying a significant portion of the Río de la Plata riverbank and representing the latest architectural trends. History 19th century From its inception, the city of Buenos Aires had a problem accommodating large cargo ships, as per Puerto La Boca, because the shallow river did not allow for direct docking. Instead ships were moored away from the shore and passengers and merchandise were unloaded onto barges and ferries for transport to the pier. Quilmes
Quilmes () is a city on the coast of the Rio de la Plata, in the , on the south east of the Greater Buenos Aires. The city was founded in 1666 and it is the seat of the eponymous county. With a population of 230,810, it is located south of the capital of Argentina, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. History The '' Quilmes'' were a native tribe who lived in the surroundings of Tucumán. In the 17th century, after repeated attempts by the Spanish invaders to control their lands, the Quilmes were defeated and were forced to settle in a restricted colony ('' reducción'') near Buenos Aires, where the authorities could control them. The settlement was thus established in 1666 as ''Exaltación de la Santa Cruz de los Kilme''. The journey from Tucumán was made on foot, causing hundreds of Quilmes to die in the process.
