Quilmes () is a city on the coast of the Rio de la Plata, in the , on the south east of the Greater Buenos Aires. The city was founded in 1666 and it is the seat of the eponymous county. With a population of 230,810, it is located south of the capital of Argentina, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. History The '' Quilmes'' were a native tribe who lived in the surroundings of Tucumán. In the 17th century, after repeated attempts by the Spanish invaders to control their lands, the Quilmes were defeated and were forced to settle in a restricted colony ('' reducción'') near Buenos Aires, where the authorities could control them. The settlement was thus established in 1666 as ''Exaltación de la Santa Cruz de los Kilme''. The journey from Tucumán was made on foot, causing hundreds of Quilmes to die in the process. Quilmes Partido
Quilmes is a partido of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, within the Gran Buenos Aires conurbation. It has an area of , and a population of 580,829 (), making it the third-most populous partido in the Gran Buenos Aires. Named after the Quilmes Tribe, its capital is the city of Quilmes. Beer Quilmes gives its name to one of Argentina's beers, Cerveza Quilmes, which was originally brewed in the area. Quilmes (tribe)
The Quilmes people, also known as ''Kilmes'', were an indigenous tribe of the Diaguita group settled in the western subandean valleys of today’s Tucumán province, in northwestern Argentina. They fiercely resisted the Inca invasions of the 15th century, and continued to resist the Spaniards for 130 years, until being defeated in 1667. Spanish invaders relocated the last 2,000 survivors to a reservation (''reducción'') 20 km south of Buenos Aires. This 1,500 km journey was made by foot, causing hundreds of Quilmes to die in the process. By 1810, the reservation was abandoned as a result of its having become a ghost town. The survivors ultimately settled in what is now the city of Quilmes. The Quilmes Indians were one of the fiercest cultures which resisted the Incas but eventually fell to the Spaniards. Mayra Soledad Mendoza (born 26 November 1983) is an Argentine politician who served as National Deputy from 2011 to 2019 and is currently '' intendenta'' (mayor) of Quilmes for the Frente de Todos. Early life She was born in a radical family. In her teenage years she taught support classes in a community canteen in her town. She began to be part of La Cámpora group since its creation in 2006, becoming in 2011 the only woman on the national leadership table. British Invasions Of The Río De La Plata
The British invasions of the River Plate were two unsuccessful British attempts to seize control of areas in the Spanish colony of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata that were located around the Río de la Plata in South America – in present-day Argentina and Uruguay. The invasions took place between 1806 and 1807, as part of the Napoleonic Wars, when Spain was an ally of Napoleonic France. History The invasions occurred in two phases. A detachment from the British army occupied Buenos Aires for 46 days in 1806 before being expelled. In 1807, a second force stormed and occupied Montevideo, remaining for several months, and a third force made a second attempt to take Buenos Aires. After several days of street fighting against the local militia and Spanish colonial army, in which half of the British forces were killed or wounded, the British were forced to withdraw.
