Nairobi Rail Service
The Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) is a network of diesel trains serving Nairobi and its suburbs. In 2020, 13,000 daily passengers used this service. After being modernized, the NCR was inaugurated by president Uhuru Kenyatta on 10 November 2020. Services Rolling Stock In April 2020 Kenya Railways acquired 11 refurbished diesel multiple units from Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca. Commuter rail, or suburban rail, is a passenger rail transport service that primarily operates within a metropolitan area, connecting Commuting, commuters to a Downtown, central city from adjacent suburbs or commuter towns. Mwiki
Mwiki is a low-income neighbourhood in the counties of Nairobi and Kiambu. It is approximately northeast of the central business district of Nairobi. Due to its transregional nature, the part of Mwiki that is within Nairobi is referred as Kasarani Mwiki while the other portion domiciled in Kiambu is referred as Githurai Mwiki. The two Mwiki regions are separated by the Gatharaini River (Kasarani River) as it flows downstream in an easterly direction to join the Nairobi River. Location Mwiki is located approximately northeast of Nairobi's central business district. Kasarani Mwiki is straddled by the Kasarani-Mwiki Road, off Thika Road. Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC), also Kenya Railways (KR) is the national railway of Kenya. Established in 1977, KR is a state corporation. History The original Uganda Railway was transformed into the East African Railways and Harbours Corporation (EAR&H) after World War I. The EAR&H managed the railways of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanganyika until the collapse of the East African Community in 1977. KR then took over the Kenyan part of the EARC. Kitengela
Kitengela is a municipality in the Kajiado County of Kenya, located 50 Kilometres south of the capital Nairobi, forming part of the greater Metropolitan Area. Kitengela begun as The Kitengela group ranch, made up of 18,292 ha and 214 registered members which was subdivided in 1988 in efforts by the Government to encourage private land ownership in pastoral systems, with the aim of intensifying and commercializing livestock production. Athi River is a town outside Nairobi, Kenya in Machakos County. The town is named after the Athi River, which passes through. It is also known as Mavoko. Syokimau
Syokimau is a residential area in the west of Machakos County, Kenya, just south of Nairobi and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The place is named after the legendary Akamba medicine woman Prophetess Syokimau. Syokimau Prophesied the coming of the white people to Kenya and also prophesied the construction of the Mombasa to Kisumu railway line. In her prophecy she said she could see people of a different colour emanating from kisuani, the modern day port of Mombasa and carrying fire in their pockets which was later to be understood as white people in vessels carrying matchboxes and guns. She prophesied seeing a long snake, whose head was in the Indian Ocean and the tail was in Lake Victoria.
