NeuConnect
NeuConnect is a high-voltage direct current submarine power cable under construction since 2023 between the Isle of Grain, England and Wilhelmshaven Germany, expected to operate in 2028. It will be the first interconnector between the UK and Germany. The cost of () is financed by Meridiam from France, Allianz Capital Partners from Germany, Kansai Electric Power Company from Japan, and Tokyo Electric Power Company from Japan. Julia Prescot
Julia Elizabeth Prescot (born February 1959) is a businesswoman who serves as the Deputy Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission in the United Kingdom. She is the co-founder of Meridiam, and is the Chair of NeuConnect, Chair of Fulcrum Infrastructure Group, and Non-Executive Director of Allego. Career In 2023, Prescot was appointed the Deputy Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission after her 5-year service as a Commissioner. She is Chair of NeuConnect, a new energy interconnector under construction between the UK and Germany. The project reached financial close in July, 2022. North Sea Link
The North Sea Link is a 1,400MW high-voltage direct current submarine power cable between Norway and the United Kingdom. At it was the longest subsea interconnector in the world when it became operational on 1 October 2021. Route The cable runs from Kvilldal, Suldal, in Norway, to Cambois near Blyth in England. The converter station is located near to the cable landfall in East Sleekburn and is connected to the National Grid at the Blyth substation. Technical description The cable is long, and has a capacity of 1,400MW. The estimated cost of the project was €2billion, and it became operational in 2021, as planned. Nemo Link is a 1,000 MW HVDC submarine power cable between Richborough Energy Park in Kent, the United Kingdom and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The project is a joint venture between British National Grid and Belgian Elia. The 400 kV electrical interconnector is the first between the two countries, with an annual transmission capacity of 8.76TWh. The link has been fully operational since 31 January 2019, and has transported 29 TWh during its first 5 years; 24.75 TWh to the UK and 4.25 to Belgium with an availability above 99%. Icelink
Icelink is a proposed electricity interconnector between Iceland and the United Kingdom via Great Britain. At , the 8001,200MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link would be the longest sub-sea power interconnector in the world. The project partners for the main proposal are National Grid plc in the UK, Landsvirkjun, the state-owned generator in Iceland, and Landsnet, the Icelandic Transmission System Operator (TSO). An alternative proposal by Edi Truell's company Disruptive Capital Finance goes by the name "Atlantic SuperConnection", but it requires UK government financing. According to Landsvirkjun, it will take about five years to complete feasibility and other work, and if a decision is made to go ahead, construction and installation would take a further five to six years.
