Mihaela Miroiu (born 1955 in Hunedoara, Romania) is a Romanian political theorist and feminist philosopher and the most prominent activist for women's rights and a very well known activist for Roma rights, more generally, for minorities rights. She is currently Professor of Political science at the Faculty of Political Science, National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Bucharest. She was and is involved in numerous institutional, civic and political contributions for setting and development of political science and democratization in Romania. Mihaela Valentina Runceanu (4 May 1955, Buzău – 1 November 1989, Bucharest) was a Romanian pop singer and vocal techniques teacher. She became a successful vocal singer, her voice being highly appreciated in Romania. Many of her songs were hits, and she released two albums, ''Mihaela Runceanu'' (1987) and ''Pentru voi, muguri noi'' (1989), the latter only one day before she was murdered in her home in Bucharest. Mihaela Melinte (born 27 March 1975 in Bacău) is a Romanian hammer thrower. She holds the world junior record, and with 76.07 metres she held the world record until Tatyana Lysenko beat it in July 2005. The twelve-time Romanian national champion, Melinte is also a former European and World champion, but has never participated in the Olympics. She failed a drugs test at the Notturna di Milano meeting in 2000 (ruling her out of the 2000 Sydney Olympics) and she was banned from the sport for two years for taking nandrolone (an anabolic steroid). Following her ban, she never again reached a major global podium or threw over 72 metres – some way off her previous world record mark. Mihaela Dascălu (born 12 February 1970) is a retired Romanian speed skater, and the most successful speed skater from that country. Biography Dascălu was born in the city of Braşov, and first trained as a figure skater before changing to speed skating. She debuted at the 1987 World Junior Championships, where she finished seventh. The following year she finished ninth, but was later disqualified for doping use along with her teammate Cerasela Hordobețiu, making it impossible for her to make the 1988 Winter Olympics at Calgary. She returned to the international scene in 1991, and finished sixth in the 1000 meter during the 1992 Winter Olympics, the best Romanian Olympic speed skating finish of all time.
