Market Research Society
The Market Research Society is a professional body for market research based in London, England. It was established in 1946 at the offices of the London Press Exchange. It represents the views of its members to government and in the press. MRS recognise 5,000 individual members and over 500 accredited Company Partners in over 50 countries. As the regulator, they promote the highest professional standards throughout the sector via the MRS Code of Conduct. MRS is the world’s largest association serving those with professional equity in provision or use of market, social and opinion research, and in business intelligence, market analysis, customer insight and consultancy. Mrs. (American English) or Mrs (British English; standard English pronunciation: ) is a commonly used English honorific for women, usually for those who are married and who do not instead use another title (or rank), such as ''Doctor'', ''Professor'', ''President'', '' Dame'', etc. In most Commonwealth countries, a full stop (period) is usually not used with the title. London Press Exchange
The London Press Exchange was founded in 1892 by Frederick Higginbottom and Reginald J.Sykes, becoming a significant Government advertising agency during World War II. It merged with the Leo Burnett agency in 1969. The agency also produced promotional work for the 1921 film '' Elsie and the Brown Bunny'', and advertising posters for the 1951 Festival of Britain. On 5 November 1946, the Market Research Society was created in the London Press Exchange offices. The British Polling Council (BPC) is an association of market research companies whose opinion polls are regularly published or broadcast in media in the United Kingdom. The BPC was established in 2004, twelve years after the perceived failure of opinion polls to come close to predicting the actual result of the 1992 United Kingdom general election. Gerald Goodhardt (1930 - 7 May 2020) was a marketing scientist. Career Professor Goodhardt began his career working as a statistician for Attwood Panels, and later Aske Research with Andrew Ehrenberg. From 1981-95 he was Sir John E Cohen Professor of Consumer Studies at The City University Business School. Apart from being the Chairman of the Board at thEhrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science Professor Gerald Goodhardt was Emeritus Professor, City University; Visiting Professor, Kingston University and also a Visiting Research Associate, South Bank University.
