Mike Mackey
Michael J. Mackey (born ) is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. He was the member of the Newfoundland House of Assembly (MHA) for Grand Falls from 1995 to 1996. Politics Mackey was born in the village of St. Brendan's in Bonavista Bay. He lived in Grand Falls as an adult, where he became an educator. Mackey was the regional supervisor for the provincial Department of Education's adult education program in 1980. When the Central Community College was established in Grand Falls in 1987, Mackey became the school's community director of education. When former Progressive Conservative (PC) party leader Len Simms resigned from the House of Assembly in 1995, Mackey successfully ran as the PC candidate to succeed him in his district of Grand Falls. The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly () is the Unicameralism, unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building (Newfoundland and Labrador), Confederation Building in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the lieutenant governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, in the name of the King of Canada. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. This tradition dates back to the 1850s as the heaters in the Colonial Building were located on the left side. MUN Extension Service
MUN Extension Service, also known as "MUN Extension" or simply "Extension," was an innovative outreach program run by Memorial University of Newfoundland between 1959 and 1991. It was notable for its use of interactive media and field workers to promote community development in rural areas of the province. History MUN Extension Service had its roots in the 1930s when MUN's (then Memorial University College's) first president, John Lewis Paton, encouraged the formation of the Newfoundland Adult Education Association (NAEA). The NAEA employed field workers in rural communities as early as the 1930s to improve economic outcomes through adult education. At the same time the co-operative model was being actively promoted as an alternative to merchant capital. The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a political party in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is one of the three parties currently represented in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly, and one of two that had continual representation since Newfoundland became a province of Canada. Bonavista Bay
Bonavista Bay (BB) is a large bay located on the northeast coast of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. It opens directly onto the Atlantic Ocean. The bay is demarcated by Cape Freels to the north and Cape Bonavista to the south. Cape Bonavista is also the eastern limit of the Bonavista Peninsula, which forms the bay's southern shore. The topography of the central western shore of the bay is composed of numerous channels and islands. This area also hosts Terra Nova National Park. Containing many densely forested islands, Bonavista Bay is virtually landlocked. With temperatures sometimes reaching -1 °C, it attracts the occasional iceberg. However, due to the dense forestry, the region inside the bay can sometimes be warm enough for lobster cultivation.
