May Sybil Leslie
May Sybil Leslie (14 August 1887 – 3 July 1937) was an English chemist who worked with Marie Curie and Ernest Rutherford. From 1920 until her death Leslie was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Biography Leslie was born to Frederick Leslie, a coal miner and bookseller, and Elizabeth Dickinson. She was educated in Leeds, graduating from a high school in 1905. She received her BSc in chemistry with first-class honors from the University of Leeds in 1908.The following year, she was awarded an M.Sc. for research with H.M.Dawson on the kinetics of the iodination of acetone. This research was then published in 1909 in the Transactions of the Chemistry Society. In that same she worked as a research assistant to Marie Curie in Paris (1909–1911) and wrote several articles in French on extraction of new elements from thorium and their properties. Woodlesford () is a suburban village in the City of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, south-east of Leeds city centre. Formerly part of the Rothwell Urban District, it is now within the Rothwell ward of Leeds City Council. The village sits on the banks of the Aire and Calder Navigation and river system. Bardsey, West Yorkshire, England is a small village in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, north east of Leeds city centre. The village is in the LS17 Leeds postcode district. It is part of the civil parish of Bardsey cum Rigton. The village itself lies just off the A58 road between Leeds and Wetherby. Ernest Rutherford, 1st Baron Rutherford of Nelson, (30 August 1871 – 19 October 1937) was a New Zealand physicist who came to be known as the father of nuclear physics. ''Encyclopædia Britannica'' considers him to be the greatest experimentalist since Michael Faraday (1791–1867). Apart from his work in his homeland, he spent a substantial amount of his career abroad, in both Canada and the United Kingdom. Actinium is a chemical element with the symbol Ac and atomic number 89. It was first isolated by Friedrich Oskar Giesel in 1902, who gave it the name ''emanium''; the element got its name by being wrongly identified with a substance André-Louis Debierne found in 1899 and called actinium. Actinium gave the name to the actinide series, a group of 15 similar elements between actinium and lawrencium in the periodic table. West Hartlepool
West Hartlepool was a predecessor of Hartlepool, County Durham, England. It developed in the Victorian era and took the name from its western position in the parish of what is now known as the Headland. The former town was originally formed in 1848 as an accompanying settlement for nearby railway and docks, which brought and exported coal from the area.
