Margaret Arney
Margaret Michele Arney ( Tully; born June 17, 1969) is an American nonprofit consultant, educator, and Democratic politician from Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 18th Assembly district since 2025. She also currently serves as a member of the city council of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, since 2022. She is Wauwatosa's first African American city councilmember. Biography Margaret Arney was born Margaret Michele Tully in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in June 1969. She was raised and educated in Milwaukee, graduating from Rufus King High School in 1987. She went on to attend Harvard University, and earned her bachelor's degree in government studies in 1991. She continued her education at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, and completed her master's of social service administration in 1994. The 18th Assembly district of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district is contained within central Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, Milwaukee County, including parts of near-west Milwaukee and southeast Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Wauwatosa. It contains the Milwaukee neighborhoods List of neighborhoods of Milwaukee#Washington Heights, Washington Heights and Sherman Park, Milwaukee, Sherman Park and includes landmarks such as the Miller Brewing Company and Parks of Milwaukee, Washington Park. 2024 Wisconsin State Assembly Election
The 2024 Wisconsin State Assembly election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, alongside 2024 Wisconsin Senate election, elections for the State Senate. All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly were up for election. The primary election was held on August 13, 2024. The filing deadline to appear on the ballot was June 3, 2024. Prior to the election, 64 Assembly seats were held by Republicans, 34 seats were held by Democrats, with one seat, formerly held by a Democrat, vacant. The race for chamber control was considered far more competitive in this cycle than at any point in the past decade.
