Log Hill Mesa
Log Hill Mesa is a mesa in Ouray County, Colorado. Log Hill Mesa includes part of the southern end of the Uncompahgre Plateau and faces south towards the Sneffels Range. Recreation Log Hill Mesa is home to the mountain resort community of Loghill Village. In addition to the amenities of Loghill Village, the mesa is popular as a hiking, cross country skiing, and biking destination. Mesa
A mesa is an isolated, flat-topped elevation, ridge or hill, which is bounded from all sides by steep escarpments and stands distinctly above a surrounding plain. Mesas characteristically consist of flat-lying soft sedimentary rocks capped by a more resistant layer or layers of harder rock, e.g. shales overlain by sandstones. The resistant layer acts as a caprock that forms the flat summit of a mesa. The caprock can consist of either sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and limestone; dissected lava flows; or a deeply eroded duricrust. Ouray County
Ouray County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,874. The county seat is Ouray. Because of its rugged mountain topography, Ouray County is also known as the Switzerland of America. History Ouray County was formed out of San Juan County on 18 January 1877, the first county designated by the newly formed Colorado State Legislature. It was named for Chief Ouray, a distinguished Ute Indian chief. Ouray was designated county seat on 8 March 1877. On 19 February 1881, Dolores County was formed out of Ouray County. On 27 February 1883, Ouray County was split into San Miguel County and what is currently Ouray County. Loghill Village
Loghill Village is a Census-designated place (CDP) in and governed by Ouray County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Montrose, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Loghill Village CDP was 521 at the United States Census 2010. The Ridgway post office serves Loghill Village postal addresses. Geography Loghill Village is located on Log Hill Mesa north of the town of Ridgway and northeast of Pleasant Valley. Loghill Village borders Ridgway State Park and Eldredge, though there is no direct road access between the two. Via road, Loghill Village is nearest to the town of Ridgway which can be seen from its position on the mesa. Loghill is primarily covered in large Ponderosa Pine trees, piñons and junipers. Cimarron Ridge is a ridge in the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado. The ridge runs north-south and occupies parts of Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray, and Hinsdale counties.
