Lapierre is a bicycle manufacturing company based in Dijon, France. Lapierre bicycles are ridden by French UCI WorldTeams Groupama–FDJ and FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope. Their mountain bikes have been notably ridden by Nicolas Vouilloz and he has been involved in the development of the bikes. History The company was founded 1946 by Gaston Lapierre in Dijon. His son, Jacky, took over management in 1960, and a new factory was built in 1972. Lapierre is owned by Accell Group. Accell bought a 33% stake in January 1993, followed by the rest in April 1996. In 2007 Lapierre started distribution in the United Kingdom. Distribution began in Canada with the 2010 model year. Groupama–FDJ () is a French cycling team at UCI WorldTeam level. The team is managed by Marc Madiot, a former road bicycle racer and winner of the Paris–Roubaix classic in 1985 and 1991. The team is predominantly French. Nicolas Vouilloz (born 8 February 1976) is a French professional mountain biker and former professional rally driver. He won the Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships ten times, starting as a junior in 1992 and finishing his career with his 10th victory in 2002, only placing lower in 2000 finishing 8th. He also won sixteen World cup Downhill races and is widely considered as the greatest male downhill racer of all time. Vouilloz was born in Nice, France.
