Lutter (Lüneburger Heide)
Lutter () is a small river in the Lüneburg Heath, Lower Saxony, Germany, right tributary of the Lachte. The Lutter has its source near (district of Eschede), southeast of Unterlüß. It passes Bargfeld (where it is joined by the Schmalwasser), Eldingen, and Luttern (a district of Eldingen). It flows into the river Lachte at , near Lachendorf, east of Celle. Lachte
The Lachte is a right-hand tributary of the Aller (Germany), Aller in the Südheide Nature Park in the north Germany, German state of Lower Saxony. Course The Lachte river rises in the northern part of the Gifhorn (district), district of Gifhorn southwest of Sprakensehl. It initially flows southwest, feeds at long row of fish ponds near the Auermühle Estate (''Gut Auermühle'') and is then joined from the left by the Kainbach stream and, beyond the town of Steinhorst (Niedersachsen), Steinhorst (which has a water wheel in its coat of arms), the Jafelbach. In Steinhorst a stony ford crosses the river. Near Beedenbostel, Celle district, the Lutter (Lachte), Lutter and the Aschau (Lachte), Aschau join the Lachte from the right. Lüneburg Heath
Lüneburg Heath (, ) is a large area of heath (habitat), heath, geest, and woodland in the northeastern part of the state of Lower Saxony in northern Germany. It forms part of the hinterland for the cities of Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen and is named after the town of Lüneburg. Most of the area is a nature reserve (Germany), nature reserve. Northern Low Saxon is still widely spoken in the region. Lüneburg Heath has extensive areas, and the most yellow of heath (habitat), heathland, typical of those that covered most of the North German countryside until about 1800, but which have almost completely disappeared in other areas. The heaths were formed after the Neolithic period by overgrazing of the once widespread forests on the poor sandy soils of the geest, as this slightly hilly and sandy terrain in northern Europe is called. Eschede
Eschede () is a municipality in the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Situated approximately 15 km (10 miles) northeast of Celle, Eschede lies at the border of the Südheide Nature Park, a protected area of large forests and heaths. Today around 20 small villages are part of the "Gemeinde Eschede". In 1975, the largest forest fire in the history of Germany destroyed vast tracts of forests in the area. The place is also known for the 1998 Eschede train disaster, in which an ICE 1 train crashed, killing 101 and making it the worst German rail accident since the Second World War. The painter Albert König (1881–1944) was born in Eschede, and the "Albert-König-Museum" can be visited in Unterlüß nearby. Unterlüß
Unterlüß is a village and former municipality in the district of Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany. It became part of the municipality of Südheide on 1 January 2015. It is about 30 km north-east of Celle and 25 km south-west of Uelzen. It is a station on the railway between Hanover and Hamburg. History The name Lüß was documented in 1569 for a forest, which was probably the source for the name. In 1847, the railroad was built, eventually becoming part of the line between Hanover and Hamburg, and a station Unterlüß was created, causing a settlement around it. In 1899, the company Rheinmetall (then Rheinische Metallwaren- und Maschinenfabrik Aktiengesellschaft) first installed a shooting range and then began manufacturing weapons. Bargfeld is a hamlet of about 190 inhabitants near Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany, documented since 1056, now belonging to the village municipality Eldingen. Schmalwasser
Schmalwasser is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath. The Schmalwasser rises near Blickwedel (a district of Sprakensehl), winds southwards, is joined from the left by the Räderbach and discharges into the Lutter in the village of Bargfeld. Eldingen is a municipality in the Celle (district), district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. History The first mention of Eldingen occurs in a document, affixed with seal, from the year 1231.
