Leopold Tõnson
Leopold Tõnson (13 January 1878, in Paldiski (or 14 January 1874, in Haapsalu) – 5 January 1935, in Tallinn) was an Estonian military personnel and sport personnel. He was one of the first in Estonia who started to propagate athletics, rowing and bandy. In 1909 he managed the first athletics competition in Tallinn; he himself won this competition. During the Estonian War of Independence, he was the commander of Kalev Infantry Battalion. From 1911 to 1913, 1918 to 1919, 1922 and 1924 to 1928 he was the head of Estonian Sports Association Kalev. Order Of The Cross Of The Eagle
The Order of the Cross of the Eagle ( et, Kotkaristi teenetemärk; french: Ordre de la Croix de l'Aigle) was instituted in 1928 by the Estonian Defence League to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Estonian independence. It was adopted as a state order in 1936. The Order of the Cross of the Eagle is bestowed to give recognition for military services and services in the field of national defence. It is awarded in civil and military divisions. The awards made to members of the military are denoted by the addition of crossed swords to the decoration. Estonian Sports Association Kalev
Estonian Sports Association Kalev ( et, Eesti Spordiselts Kalev) is a sports association in Estonia, founded in 1901. History The association was founded in 1901 in Tallinn as the Kalev Amateur Cyclist Society (). In 1908, a tennis club was established at the society. Later it was joined by sections of athletics, swimming, football, Greco-Roman wrestling, rowing etc. In the 1920s, a basketball club was also set up at the organization. In 1940, with the Soviet occupation of Estonia, Kalev was dissolved and its facilities were taken over by the Soviet All-Union Sports Society Dynamo. After World War II, in 1944 the ''Republican Volunteer Sports Society "Kalev"'' was formed by the Soviet authorities. At its peak during the Estonian SSR, it had 177,1 thousand members. The sports association continued its activities after the restoration of Estonian independence. A 6 kroon, 50 senti postage stamp was issued to celebrate its centenary in 2001. Paldiski
Paldiski is a town and Baltic Sea port situated on the Pakri Peninsula of northwestern Estonia. Since 2017, it's the administrative centre of Lääne-Harju Parish of Harju County. Previously a village of Estonia-Swedes known by the historical name ''Rågervik'', it was extended into a Russian naval base in the 18th century. The Russian authorities renamed it ''Балтийский Порт'' ("Baltiyskiy Port", i.e., Baltic Port, german: Baltisch-Port) in 1762. Kalev Infantry Battalion
The Kalev Infantry Battalion ( et, Kalevi jalaväepataljon) is an infantry battalion of the Estonian Land Forces. It is a part of the 1st Infantry Brigade and its primary task is to train conscription-based mechanized infantry units. The battalion has been previously known as the Kalevlaste Maleva and as the Kalev Single Infantry Battalion. The battalion is currently based at Jõhvi and is commanded by Lieutenant colonel Ain Tiidrus.
